How To: Shift into 4-Wheel Drive (4WD)-Toyota Tacoma or Tundra

I bought a 4x4 2013 Toyota Tacoma mainly because I almost lost my old RWD Ford Ranger on the boat ramp! Tacoma is a BEAST comparing to Ranger!!! It has a 4.0 liter, V6, 236 hp engine. Now, I don't have to stress out anymore and let the Tacoma do its thing... It's also lot more fun to drive the Toyota Tacoma. Additionally, mine is equipped with an off-road package, rear differential lock, all track feature which makes this truck very versatile! Oh yeah, did I tell you that the 2013 model Tacoma is more powerful than Ford F-150, which puts a smile on my face -:)

So basically H2 is the normal gear for everyday driving.  If I want to shift to H4, I can do that "on the fly" meaning just turn the knob to H4.  As long as my speed limit does not exceed 50 MPH when shifting from H2 to H4.  The gears will automatically shift while the truck is moving or in motion.  BUT if I want to use the L4, come to a complete stop, shift into "Neutral" push the dial and turn to L4 then shift back into "Drive".  Correct??

I've always been scared to switch over to 4H while moving. I'm old school on 4x4. I always thought I'd tear my truck up if I switched while moving???
Now I wanna try, but scared I'll tear my tundra up????

Thank you I have been looking for an official stance on how to shift correctly into and out of 4 wheel drive-in a Toyota for quite some time I like that somebody put a video forward saying this is how you do it

I am quite confused about petting it back into 2WD. I HAVE to engage 4W High first? Even whike not moving?

When driving on the highways in the snow should your truck be and 4 will drive high or 4 wheel drive low?

So wait.... you have to put it in 4WD High before you can return to 2WD? I thought you had to be going 40+ MPH for that...

Also, you have to put it in Drive to engage 4WD High before you can switch back to 2WD?

Question... Does driving in H2 save gas as opposed to driving in H4? Are you getting the same gas mileage as say a similar truck with only 2 wheel drive capability?

Dude when i go from h4 to h2 it just blinks over ans over, than when i start to drive i hear a maasive crack as while driving it goes baxk into 2x2... This isnt right., ,
