Being depressed (diagnosed and with psychiatric support) I feel I am getting more "stupid". I forget things and have reduced ability to solve problems.

Like dealing with depression itself isn't enough, let's throw some memory issues into the mix. But knowledge is power and now that we know about the problems we can work to deal with them. Thank you Dr Marks 👍

38 years later it was recognized I have fought with ptsd from my military service. The accompanying depression was ugly. I have been in treatment for these for the past 2.5 years and I have great improvement.
I’m almost 68, and looking forward to many great years ahead. We have bodacious longevity in our family so I see 107 and healthy as realistic and desirable, dagnabbit!
Thank you, Dr. Marks for these videos!

Oh my goodness! I have been depressed off and on my whole life! I really don't need my brain cells to deplete anymore than they may have already!

I was hospitalized for depression, and i was told it was "kind of like dementia." After a week or so on the drugs they gave me, I hadn't realized how bad I'd gotten until I was astonished at all the COLORS in the world!! Depression had literally dulled (depressed) my vision. Things are so much more vivid now. It's amazing!

DOCTOR! I've tries to read anything I can on effects of depression, as I've been severely depressed for a long time. I have never heard this, but it's almost a relief. My memory is scary bad, I have trouble remembering yesterday's details sometimes. This gives me hope.

I can’t work anymore because of my bad memory and judgment- last time I tried it was all very humiliating…

Before I got medicated it was starting to scare me because I thought I was losing myself. Started to forget things more, like where I placed things, what I might of said or done. It impaired me so much I'd forget to do basic things. Paired with adhd, it got to the point I literally could only sit there staring at a wall for hours but it seemed like 30 mins.

I've felt increasingly "dumb" over the last decade, too much to be explained by normal ageing. I hate it when people just tell me "no one remembers x or y" and I call bs. As someone that has always appreciated intelligence, because it's what allows me to understand complex concepts, because I love science, this is like adding insult to injury. As if major depressive disorder wasn't enough in itself. Cognition issues is like being eternally hungry but being unable to hold food down.

Makes perfect sense. When I have bouts of severe depression, I often wonder if I’m becoming senile. (I’m 73.)

I'm curious how childhood-onset depression affects brain development. I was first diagnosed w MDD at 13 but my symptoms started at ~8-10. I'm 25 now and i definitely feel "slow" around people my age, like the 90 year old almost deaf relative trying to participate in a conversation at thanksgiving.

I am actually afraid of getting dementia as I age. I've had memory problems since I was 16 due to C-ptsd. I'm missing whole years of my life. I've been doing okay, but I noticed after every traumatic event.. I just can't really remember the details. I know it's my mind's way of protecting us, but I have no idea what other things I've lost/am losing in the process.

Its true- aging with bp2 definitely causes "dumb down". Ive learned to just keep reading books for mental gymnastics, listen more & try to take my time when talking. With therapy, vitamins, minerals, herbs, intentional diet & sleep habits it softens the blow of living with this everyday. Losing my hat around the house beats losing my 🧠 in public lol

Depression made a crappie of me. I drove past where I'm going and forgot it again on my way back. Angry at everyone and just being a big fool. I'm glad it's gone.
