I dont think he is crying about it as much as he is trying to explain the dichotomy of the band vs others

The one compliment was when Kurt said he’d pick grohl over Bonham.

There's an interview with Grohl from a long time ago where he said one night Cobain out of the blue called him and said he was incredible on the Nevermind album

I think Kurt and Krist were just the type to think it's weird to talk about how good their own show was.

Kurt respected and appreciated Dave as a musician or he wouldn't have been there. He just never expressed it. Seattle and England share the same climate and the same unbelievably cold stoicism.

He also statued that magic of Nirvana came from that dynamic too. Kurt also said that when he was watching video of the band, that it was obvious they had chemestry together. Also in the unplugged Krist complimented Kurt on his pêrformance on Penny Royaliy and he awsered "shut up" with a smile.

Dave’s entire career has been motivated by needing validation. He needed it from his father, he needed it from Scream, he needed it from Kurt, and he needed from the industry after starting FF. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s just who Dave is and what keeps him going.

Gex x men not showing much love to each other makes sense though.

That's so cool, they were at the top of the world and didn't care!!

their album sales number was the compliment..shows them how many people supported the band...

Kurt, purposefully so or not, did an amazing job motivating Dave Grohl. Some people thrive more than others on being validated. Humans are odd in the fact that so many, once validated take their foot right off the gas.

2 of the most impressive things I've heard about Nirvana (from Grohl) is that they never talked about their song arrangements and they never stroked their own egos after a show. Those 2 things are near impossible for bands to (not) do.

Sounds like family dynamics at play. Bands are a relationship much like a family, if you weren't complimented growing up, it won't happen there. Then again, Dave could have started the complimenting and made it a normal after show ritual.

This is actually insightful into the psychology of the group and into Kurt as it was his project and Kris was down for the ride and there’s documentation of them partying and having mischievous fun. I wonder why Kurt thought so lowly of himself like he thought he was fake but everyone has a shadow self and he put a lot into being a local sub pop band like many of the bands he looked up to. Musicians can have that alter ego and pour it out on the stage!

My old guitarist and I used to do this. One day I realized all I ever did was criticize our playing and had to stop

Kurt didn't give much love to anyone. He didn't know how to do that. I grew up in a home where there was NEVER any positive reinforcement or kind, loving words so I never knew how to show love to people either.

If you know your good, you don't need to constantly validate each other's musical or performance abilities. It's nice to hear how awesome you are, but real pros know it and are confident in their own skills.

That’s bull shit cause you can find Kurt saying Dave has perfect metronome timing
