With the ubxa being released Tom should have done an OB-X reissue, it’s discrete circuitry rather than Curtis chips and a much thicker organic sound

Just imagine a new wave of music inspired by these new "old" machines. We're going to need to wait until we see the impact!
Great video as always, James.

I'd love to have the new Prophet-10 and an OB-X reissue with today's reliability.

Tom Oberheim is just protecting his name to assure Behringer isn't nicking it from him. There's no reason to believe he'll start creating new instruments as he's 84 years old...

Wow an OB-Xa remake will be amazing. Love the Prophet 10 remake, 5 stars. A Yamaha CS80 remake next, let's cross fingers!

It seems quite likely, following the Prophet-5, that Sequential will do the same thing with Oberheim, making a recreation/combination of OB-X and OB-Xa. I just hope they give it stereo outs, and split/layer (which the OB-Xa had).

My friend still has his original DX. I'd love to get the DMX.

People seem to forget that Moog started the re-issue thing alongside Korg. Korg's price was more affordable but if we look at Sequential and their pricing then they are in the same bracket as Moog with their re-issues. Behringer are making cheap versions of the originals. That's great for those who can't afford the real thing and those who don't mind not using the originals.

Wow. I hope that within the next six to eight months we'll see some videos of A/B/C comparisons between the UB-Xa, the original OB-Xa, and the OB-Xa reissue. That will be fascinating. I'll probably go with the UB-Xa if it delivers the sound I want and does not cost me too many major appendages. I'm hoping we see that soon.

I totally agree with you that it took the scare of someone else doing the reboot to get Dave Smith moving. The Prophet 5 reboot is years overdue, but grateful it's finally on the way. Signed - a grateful Behringer Pro-1 owner.

food for thought, price will determine my interest ultimately.
I'm betting this would put a bit a sense of urgency in Uli's crew to get their ubxa buttoned up and released also, so everyone would come out a winner...those who want &can afford the oberheim and those who are clone fans, on a budget(like me) or possibly someone who wants both. Now if Roland&yammaha would just turn back time temporarily an do some Re-releases also, say a juno or Jupiter(not boutiques) or even a SH &maybe yammaha could throw in some CS series units the synth world would become really interesting...
Have a good one&God bless....

Real Obie, fake Obie, as long as it sounds big like an Obie, I'll take it!

Great video! Yeah, I've been so curious about those trademarks after someone pointed it out on the Sequential forum. Let's hope Dave forwarded that e-mail over to Tom Oberheim and it had the same effect. It would be a dream come true for me if Tom released a new OB-Xa. I moved to Russia from the States last year and brought all eight of my DSI / Sequential synths, but sold all of my Oberheim units (Matrix 6, Matrix 1000, & two DPX-1's) before the move. My OB-6 surely hits the spot for replacing those synths, but I've been dreaming of an OB-Xa since I was a child in the early 80's. A close friend of mine back in the States has one in his studio, but his tech has to service it every year, and unfortunately it hardly gets used because of that. But yeah, imagine having the Prophet 5 Rev 4 and on official Oberheim OB-Xa reissue in your studio, it would be so much fun!

If Behringer can start actually releasing the stuff they’re promising

What do you think? 6-8k because they can? Is it worth it? I think absolutely not. Will some people buy it, yes. I think they will. Make it a "limited run" and they can charge more.

I've always been curious. What does everyone think the profit on one of Dave Smiths 4k synths is? Say the Prophet-10 - $2500-3k? $300 for the store? I really have no idea but I'd like to know. Considering tech has advanced dramatically since 1978 and they're charging more or less the same price they did back then I can't see it as anything other than paying all that extra for a brand name. I could be totally wrong though, I just don't know. It just seems to me that it should be far far cheaper these days.

Great news, hope they keep the Prophet 5 so that I can buy some day

Well, I'd like to see Tom up his support game first. Bought the two-voice pro used, it was sold to me claiming the was firmware was updated. So, I emailed his website just to verify, it was sold to me as claimed. That was two years ago, I'm a patient guy, especially for Tom, but damn dude.

I think Behringer's strength will be in their ability to provide affordable versions of whatever they come up with. And that's probably based on their manufacturing process at Behringer City.

Sequential should do a Pro-One remake. I'm looking forward to prices falling massively on those original old synths and drum machines. I never understood all the fuss about the TR-80 8 from Roland.

This could all be lawyer and patent posturing. I’m not getting my hopes up. Behringer is the only sure thing at this point.
