I presume it depends on the surface. In particular, whether the surface is porous and/or absorbent.

Rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer also works.

EDIT: 5 months after I made this benign comment, and I'm still receiving weirdly passive aggressive responses. I beg that if people continue to comment, please be nice.

That's the beauty of solvents. There's solvents in the marker and if you use them before they dry you can wipe it off.

This is an extremely useful trick in commercial construction 👌

That's because you're covering it in the mixture of stuff that keeps the ink liquid in the marker.... It also helps to keep one in your toolbelt or toolbox that has ran out of ink and you filled it w/ rubbing alcohol so you have an eraser for all kinds of stuff. 😁👍

use a dry erase marker over sharpie works awesome on metal surfaces, whiteboards where sharpies were used by mistake. (Most non porous surfaces)

About 15 years ago a guy asked me if there's anything that removes Sharpie other than Sharpie. I learned something that day.

I bought a big box of alcohol prep pads like for a first aid kit. I just keep a handful in my packout organizers as my sharpie erasers.

Most electricians went to anti-handwriting school just like doctors. I don't want their scratch on my panels. Use printed labels. It's much more professional looking.

Electricians don't make mistakes.
If they did, they would be plumbers.

Ima use my Brady label to make a clean label. Never written with sharpies on the face of panels.
