Tearing into the quarter panel on my 240sx restoration!

The long await quarter panel replacement on my project 240sx S13 is finally here! I begin tearing the car apart to learn the structures within the chassis. Upon investigation I find I am in for much more fabrication work than expected..

I spent the last 7 years building this 1990 Nissan 240sx from the ground up by myself. I swapped out the KA24e for a KA24de. Then once more for a RB25det out of a R34 Skyline and couldn't be happier. I have also converted the 240 to right hand drive, (which ended up saving my life!) After installing a few drift parts; such as a hydro E - Brake, and dual rear calipers, welded diff, solid suspension bushings and more, the car handled amazing. Surprisingly this S13 was able to drift and stay sideways perfectly despite the damage that was done to it.

I would think at this point best option would be to cut out rust metal. Weld in new metal, spray something on it to prevent it from rusting again. Best would be steel it👍🏾

Phosphoric acid is a great rust converter and leaves a protective layer on the metal. I know you will do your best to get rid of most of it, but this an option, - as your bound find other spots as you tidy up the rebuild. Phosphoric acid changes the iron oxide aka, rust, into iron phosphate. Look it up online, and on YouTube, lots of builders use it in the auto industry. So good to see the 240 again 🙂

Just wanted to let you know (if you didn't know it already :D) that time you invest in those quick cuts (I don't know how to call them, for example, when you cleaned up the mess) definitely pays off, it's really satisfying to watch, so please do not plan on stopping putting them in the videos!

The best thing to un-roll fenders with is a tool I made, I bought wide, flat sheet metal vise grips and heated the jaws up with a torch to curve them slightly. Works fantastic.

You're a huge inspiration dude, you've really shown me to do it right the first time rather than just making it work, now im going back over my build and dialing in all the little imperfections and issues that bother me, thanks man 👍🏻

Just a little advise on the spot welds dent fix sells a really nice bit 8mm and 10mm and for a better repair u don't want to drill through the inner structure only the outer skin the dent fix bits are awesome and alot easier to not drill completely through both panels

The progress and commitment to this rebuild makes wanna keep coming back! Its great to see someone who wants to rebuild and take the time than just chuck out the car and replace it.

We have a podcast on our channel Mintyfresh TV, if you ever have the time to check it out we would love to get you on to tell the story of the car and your car history

Mike it's really simple, your just not admitting you'd make a fantastic fabricator. Keep up the good work!

Builds coming along great Mike! Check out some cavity wax for the inner panels as it would make it very hard to rust from the inside out! Cheers man

I used to own an 89 S13, fully built KA24DET. Caught fire during an event down here in FL. I regret letting go of the car ever since. Mad respect man, love your videos.

If you don't want to cut and weld back a plate you can just sandblast it and paint it with some POR-15. It will be good as new
