Wow! I never knew The Smithsonian had a youtube channel. Truly breathtaking to see one of the world's foremost history destroyers put out videos about our past.

I think the people of Pompeii did know that an eruption could happen at any moment considering there were minor earthquakes around it for 15 years before it erupted, they just believed it couldnt happen to them, like people today.

Bog bodies have also been found in Newfoundland. As a teen-ager, I saw two at the former museum in St. John's, Newfoundland. They have been put away out of sight.

The quality of craftsmanship back then is so advance even with today standards. With their repetitive design to precise details of living creatures is something i can't help but feel astonished

This channel is what the history channel would have become if they hadn’t started putting pawn shops, lost property auctions, antiquers and aliens in every show

Fido is an old Roman name meaning "faithful companion" derived from the word
" fidelis". Still used in the Marine motto
"Semper Fidelis"
That's why the bulldog, is their mascot.

This is what I thought the History Channel was supposed to be; informative and interesting. Instead... well... This is definitely interesting. When the narrator talked about the destroyed Viking fort, it instantly reminded me of a Bible story where God told the Israelites they were to utterly destroy the enemy, leave no one alive, and take none of the goods. And of course, almost everyone obeyed. Almost everyone, but.... well, I won't spoil it for anyone.

Why did it "stun" scientists to find out that the original roman city lined up with the current city's layout.?

@13:40 Ring Fort Sanby Borg ... What a lovely dark novel this tale would make ... I think revenge was the motive ... and the perpetrator was so angry, so disgusted, so deeply offended by the group that they wanted nothing to do with any material goods the group may have had ... It was a quick strike, maybe when everyone had been partying for a while and were quite unsteady due to alcohol .. in comes the group (Rivals? Members of families that had been harmed by these people?) fully armed in battle gear and the killing is swiftly accomplished ... They then disappear into the night and the carnage is left to tell the world that an eye for an eye has been exacted .. Shakespeare would have loved such a story

19.00 What are you say? Copper in prehistoric times was in bulk, it was found everywhere in Europe in the Mediterranean islands, in the Levante, etc. in large quantities. The problem was the tin. Without it, copper would not harden, that is, it would be useless.
