I think it'll be impossible to tell if there's truly a sense of self there. They could act and respond to us in a way that is indistinguishable from another human being but not be conscious. Yet, they may claim to be conscious. How could we ever know? Then it begs the question, how do we even know that our fellow beings are actually conscious in the way that we feel ourselves to be?

When this thing gets that "smart", we will discover the difference between smart and consciousness - they are not the same and perhaps we will finally figure it out and stop having merely smart people lord it over every one with their self centred limited views. Consciousness and awareness of self comes from the soul, a soulful regular person can be more aware than a smart person. Smart does not stop them from using their smarts in selfish harmful ways

They still won't be able to have inner monologue or intuition. They will just be able to explain to you what they have memorized about what those words mean.

There's a huge difference between quantity and quality. This will become more apparent with time..

No things are conscious including humans. Let alone mechine. only consciousness is conscious think about it.

An entire new world will then emerge where the AI will eventually have rights and one day even legal bodily autonomy.

A fly moves like a robot and no doubt senses things through its eyes and feels. But they also don't appear to be very conscious or self-aware. It's all programmed instinct. Why do we assume a fly is self-aware but AI is not? If a fly or goldfish ect is a bit self-aware, what mechanisms are in it's brain that make it self-aware? We can't even prove a fly is conscious 😂

Only a consciousness can think of things never thought of before. These machines cannot create anything new. The ultimate test of consciousness is the self awareness and creativity that only a entity thats deliberate in their actions can have

But there is conscious and there is self aware. There is a great difference. My cat is conscious but it's not self aware. It doesn't realize it's mortality AI? Will aI develop that inner voice that thought of self preservation

Completely lost respect for him when he threw out all logic on his COVID and vaccine stance. Before that I could count on him to methodically think and discuss so many topics.
