Is the DJI PHANTOM 4 PRO still Relevant? Where is the Phantom 5?

Ahh Yes, the Phantom. I'm probably one of the few people who still love the Phantom, but honestly it has fallen far behind in the world of practical consumer drones (batteries are expensive, not the most portable, loud, props and legs in the frame, next to no autonomous flight modes, limited active track, etc. It requires a complete makeover to become relevant in 2020. Lets hope DJI comes out with something amazing! What do you think? Share your thoughts in a comment under this video.

I got mine in 2021 and I couldn’t be happier. I love it. I love it that it’s big and everything about it

I fly with a guy who has phantom 3 pro. It's a little big to carry about, but still flys as it should.. so yes its relative in 2019.

I love my P4P2 and have flow Phantoms for quite a bit now. I do a lot of orthomosaics for construction and despite having my M300 to roll out for bigger jobs, I still find myself using the Phantom for 90% of my under 20 acre jobs. It is just such a solid mapping platform that is easy to use and cheap to buy a bunch of batteries for.

No matter what people say about the phantom. I still love mines. Yes its a beast. But it handles wind better than the smaller dji drones.

It's still the "easy drone" to launch and retrieve on a moving sailboat :)

I just bought a used phantom 3 standard and I love flying it!

I disagree with about everything you said. Not everyone wants a drone that you cant see at 600 ft, to me bigger can be better.

I bought my first drone about 9 months ago. It was a Mavic Air 2, and I bought it because of what you said. I've fallen in love with drones since my purchase, and watch a ton of YouTube videos about droning. Now that I'm thinking of upgrading for a drone with a top drawer camera, I'm coming back to your channel. And rightly so. Your reviews answer all the salient questions I have, and others that I haven't thought of. Best reviewer bar none! Thank you Steve. Don't change your style.
I hope drone manufacturers come to you for future recommendations! Much love from the UK!

4 Pro 2.0 is still the best under 3K period. People may prefer mavic 2 just for portability and design

It appears to me that us droners can be split into two categories... newbies and experienced. Now if we were to apply that split to the knowledge and use of camera gear, instead of to knowledge and use of a remote controlled quad, things start to look a little different in my opinion.... I would argue that even the “old” tech in the P4Pro is more than adequate for any consumer use and also for most commercial use.

Let’s just note here that cinema drones carry full payloads, often have 8 props or 10 and cost about $100k

So to me, anything that shoots mechanically stabilized 4k is still relevant to anyone who consults YouTube for reviews and more importantly, is not making a living with their drone.

If you shoot photos or semi-pro videos for money part time, then I would say the Phantom4Pro is worth hauling around. Mind you, I think you addressed this in your video... I just want to call it out explicitly because I own this drone.

The MP2 is lovely but I think they need to unlock that 4k60 ...

Regardless, the P4Pro is no longer available except for if you purchase from resellers.

So is it relevant? As you said in your opening... maybe for pros/semi-pros ... for newbies and recreational flyers I would say it was never relevant to them ... just my 2 pennies

Wow Droning since 2012 absolutely you've lived through some serious change.
Love your reference to sweeping shots while your Phantom would be wind swept like a kite.
Interesting old school stuff 👍

Thumbs up Captain! I had to laugh at your comment about way back with the original Phantom offering. I too go way back, very found memories of attaching my GoPro Hero to my DJI Phantom 1. I would be lucky to get 7 minutes of flight time per battery, but the joy of flying was very thrilling!

Great video, my first drone was a phantom 4 pro still flying it and it’s been a couple years now. I have no problem taking 4 minutes for set up before I fly and waiting for the ancient electronics to catch up with modern times. I have flown other drones, I still enjoy flying this drone the best.

That's why the call it 'the Pro' Not for beginner. 😊

Good points you cover. Especially the fact that on the newer Mavic drones you can’t fly in ATTI mode which is vital for those cinematic smooth shots. I love my Phantom 4 Pro 👍

Been looking at drones with larger sensors on the used market and this one seems to pop up a lot. However, it is still expensive. Someone here in Edmonton is trying to sell a combo with the case and three batteries and even the display (I think). But the asking price does not seem worth it for this drone as it is $ 1, 500 Canadian. Honestly, I would not pay more than half of that today (in 2021). Wondering what you think.

I own a mavic, an inspire and a phantom 4 pro. I have flown every drone out there, but to this day, the phantom is my favorite. I know what it can do and I know that I can push it.

P4P is still relevant, I do a little work with my drone (real estate, inspections etc) I think it looks more professional when turning up to do a job than a Mavic.
