This is way more serious than something I was looking for.

But hey, that's not a bad thing.

6:10 if you moved your hand over to the right one key, then your pinky's resting position would be on C, rather than X. This resolves conflict with fortnite hard-coding item drop to X. Plus you can now use your pinky for sprint if you wanted to.

moving one more to the right has additional benefits - your thumb now can easily hit right alt, and can easily be "tucked in" to the left to hit space bar. it's a dope setup, allowing your thumb easy reach to an additional key.

I tried kbm about 5 months ago and decided to stick to controller. I bought my son a keyboard recently so I decided to give it another shot so we can both learn at the same time. just started the switch to kbm yesterday. So glad I found this video. Spent 3 hours working on this, with a little tweaks here and there and it is a massive difference than the traditional style, I will definitely stick to it this time. Especially pared with the settings in the edit faster video, I already see massive improvement. Thanks!

*I switched to these keybinds cold turkey about a week ago, * and I haven’t looked back.
*tl:dr below* and update at the bottom
It was such a great choice and I recommend it to literally *anyone* who finds themselves frequently annoyed by either limitations of their keybinds or common mistakes/jams where something is awkward/overworked.
For me, the main issue with my old keybinds was movement. Now, I can literally do *everything* except pull out a floor while being able to do *all types* of movement (I still have full WASQ control while selecting the floor).
I initially had these two small problems (but they go away): running to the right and selecting a pyramid with your pinky is awkward (but entirely doable - keep in mind I play piano so my fingers can do and reach things some people’s can’t), and the other thing for me is scroll wheel resetting a wall and then holding it. I use one of my mouse buttons for my shotgun, so I shoot, then use my pointer to scroll, then have to select my wall which is another mouse button, and then have to hit right click to build my wall in case they shoot. If you try doing this sequence on your own you’ll get it.
tl;dr if you have any major complaints or consistent frustrations with your keybinds, I say just switch. These keybinds I think are the best keybinds possible without using a thumb joystick.
update:
It’s been a month now and playing about two and a half hours a day I have completely relearned all my binds. I am *so* far beyond what my old skill ceiling was, and an infinitely better builder, editor, and overall fighter than before - by a crazy margin. Keep in mind I have always been in Champs - I was not a bad player before. I totally recommend the switch if the stuff above applies. I’d recommend using U as your forward bind (and just shifting everything over by one key to the right) because your thumb is more dexterous and strong and it can’t hit much with the T as forward movement bind setup. I think it’s better to favor your thumb over your pinky.
Final thoughts, though - I fully endorse the binds and switching to them. I have literally *zero* complaints at this point. Not one.

You have by far the most logical and fact based content. I’m totally here for it! Very informative. Making the switch from controller to kbm. I’ve been playing since og season 2, so not going to be easy, I use back buttons. But I know kbm is more optimal. I look forward to seeing how I progress, and learning more from your videos.

I'm switching to mouse & keyboard joystick from controller. Selecting my binds was a little easier as I use my left thumb for all movement. I found the part about using one bind for a combat/build/edit function really useful as it cuts down on the overall number of binds needed. It also makes switching from controller a lot easier as I'm used to one button performing multiple actions. The only thing I find slightly awkward is having my jump on mouse side button along with wall, but its optimal as my thumbs always on it and I don't really have to move it to use my wall bind.

Thanks Sly Jack! I have really been improving with these binds because I have been struggling as a KBM player, but with these binds I am getting better at Fortnite where to the point where I am into champion league. thanks for helping me out man

I love the complex bar, so just make it so much easier to do faster movements

Im on day 3 on these keybinds and Im already working on piece control and retakes. I can do 90s and thwifo cones and box myself pretty decently. I've spent about 15 hours in 3 days on these keybinds. I was already a really good player before switching keybinds so maybe its coming easier to me than most. One tip I have is to go super slow, try not to mess up and focus on muscle memory and hand coordination. I say every build piece out loud to help my brain get accustomed to these binds because I never used my thumb, pinky, or mouse binds to build previously. The one thing that still fucks with me is pressing R to go right, I think this will take me the longest to get used to while simultaneously pressing other keys. I will comment on this in a week maybe less

I’m about to start playing FN on keyboard and mouse and I think I’ll start with using these binds, that way I can get used to them immediately and learn them from square 1, and I am coming from controller with little previous pc gaming experience, let’s see how this goes!

6:28 you can use sprint and jump at the same time using your thumb, you need to put your thumb on both keys

As far as which button to bind "place build" to, a side mouse button is better than any downwardly pressed mouse button such as right click or middle click.
This is because when you press down, you change the effective friction, if you recall your high school physics lessons. And unless you're an absolute zen master, you probably tense up and push the right click button down hard in a panic. With the side mouse button, a tense grip doesn't affect your mouse movement at all.

A side mouse button held does not increase the normal force downward onto the mouspad, so you can fluidly move the mouse around while doing your crazy builds, such as when you do long distance mouse flicks downward to place floors or do ramp edits while walking over them.

I'm not a Fortnite player, but I'd like to try. I've always thought the default keybinds were nonsense and always get stuck trying to make them better. Thanks for taking the effort out of it.
