The old rusty steel cable was lying in the garage for a long time. Finally I figured out what to do with it. See how it turned out in my video. I will say in advance that the kinetic force is incredible!

In AZ nunchucks can be carried again. This whip is awesome. Either against a two or four legged dog.

What a beautiful design you have in your yard. I would like to see more details. If it's not too much trouble. Sincerely yours!

I find it a bit odd that where I live in the USA I can carry a pistol but something like this or the wrong kind of knife would be illegal. Anyway this project turned out cool nice job.

My father worked as a spark in pubs around Glasgow in the 60s and 70s so a bit lively he carried something similar just some metal rope and tape at the ends a quick tap on the hand would do or a good belt around the kidneys for the more persistent

Looks good but I would prefer a mechanical connection with the handle, wood will expand and contract that cable flying out of that wood could really hurt an innocent bystander.

I love it.
Would love to see another build with something like a through pin or a mekugi.

Great build and video. Although I have plenty of thick cable with a LOT more rust if you need some. I like it as it is and it may be fine. You're not using it as a hammer, after all.

I do agree it would last longer with some type of mechanical attachment, but putting studs through stranded cable may have its own issues. Or looping the cable back over itself, like when adding a loop to a cable, and somehow capturing that whole thing in a longer handle. Bull whips have long, almost double handles.

What about pounding in wedges like on a hammer or ax? Not a few big, short ones but a bunch of longer thinner ones? You may need to thicken the ferrules to handle the force so weight could be a concern. Since it's steel it may help to heat and expand the cable and ferrule and chill and lubricate the wedges so it gets even tighter as the temperatures normalize. Also, you might try dripping in some molten metal or even solder (or J.B. Weld) just before you pound in the wedges/nails.

Welding some type of bulb on the end would work if the end extended a bit into or above a thicker part of a ferrule?

Use a hydraulic crimper?

And call it a tire tester to explain why you keep it in your car or truck. Does that work for truckers who carry bats or huge, club-like flashlights in case they want to see if their tires are aired up to spec? Or a handy grain thresher. You can't be over-prepared.

And you carved that collet with a Mora, OMG I'm speechless. Well done

epoxies dont handle getting cold or heat very well and they also can't handle impact or twisting forces. Take the cable alll the way thru the handle and weld on a nut/cap of some sort. Also do the same at the hilt
