"On display like an animal in a zoo" means "honored by his peers for a few hours", and maybe an all-expenses paid air trip and hotel for a couple of days before returning to whatever degree of isolation he desires. As for the money he was free to give it away to charity, or mabe to help some younger mathematicians that don't have the same freedom. I'm in no position to judge where he is on the spectrum, but this happens to be EXACTLY what people with paranoid personality disorder would say in the same circumstances. I hope he finds peace in his splendid isolation, but I'm calling BS on his philosophical diatribes - a truly elitist predicament to whine about!

If he had taken the money and gave it ALL to some charity, every cent, he would have gotten loads of attention he does not want. As I think about it, he could have gotten far less attention if he had not submitted his proof.
He defeated his purpose as soon as he submitted his proof.😊
