Convert Time to numbers, seconds, hours and minutes in Microsoft Excel 2007

In this video I show how the Microsoft Excel time format can be converted into a fraction of a day and from there you can display the day as hours, minutes or seconds. I used Office 2007 in this video but the same principle works for many different programs, even non-Microsoft spreadsheet type programs.

I don't always use the time format in Microsoft Excel but when I do I usually convert it to a number representing hours, minutes, or seconds ;)

yeah broskie, I'll keep it in mind for my next videos. but you could also follow these steps to convert say, 3.456 to a fraction:
1 - 3.456 = 3456/1000 = 3000/1000 + 456/1000 = 3 + 456/1000
2 - now the fraction above just keep simplifying it: 456/1000 = 228/500 = 114/250 = 57/125
3. the 57/125 can't be simplified further and in excel they just round it to 1/2 (i.e. 60/120)
4. Excel's final answer is 3 1/2

# shantol appleton if you want to add minutes and seconds " first you need to convert the seconds into minute format " so that you can add it.
