Historybounding adventures | a day at Hampton Court

Hello everyone and welcome to a new vlog!

I have taken upon myself to wear the things I make more often. While I haven't yet integrated them into day-to-day wear, I do like to wear them on days out, etc. When my friends decided to go to Hampton Court, I thought it was the perfect time to swish around in my 1890s skirt (since I don't have anything Tudor. Yet.) This was a really fun day, it is a gorgeous historical palace and I felt grand in my skirt and coat (coat is bought second hand). A big shout out to my friends (featured here in all their glory) for such a great day (and the British weather for not being miserable).

P.S. I nearly wore my cape but chickened out.

One day...one day I shall get my life together and make it out to Hampton Court!

But oh man, do not even get me started on the utter nonsense that is "Elizabeth I's Lost Dress". 😂

Oh my, this made me realise I’ve been history bounding for over 30 years. I even have what I called my castle dress, which I always wore for obviously castle visits, alas it no longer fits.

I saw the documentary on Elizabeth's lost dress! It's stunning! The detailing and colour is just something else! For over ten years I've been wanting to go to England to see Hampton Court and Hever Castle, as well as Kew Gardens the Chelsea Garden Show, The Lake District and Beatrix Potter's homes. I really hope I will get to do it eventually! And you wouldn't mind, but I'm only in Ireland!!😇

Funnily enough I often find that amateur filming gives a better sense of the, no matter how big the actual house/palace itself is, almost claustrophobic sense that the warren of rooms, all in rich colours and crowded with people gives. Remember, crowds are very historically would have had hordes of people, petitioners, servants, ambassadors, courtiers and general “hangers on” Other than the grand “galleries” which were meant to be a replacement for going out of doors in inclement weather, or the big reception rooms like the “grand hall, whose function was to be impressive and awe inspiring, everything was small, and close.

Ah, this video really brings back memories! Hampton Court was one of my favorite places to visit while I was in the UK. Thank you!

Your opening w the C C is creative and beautiful. Enjoyed the footage of the castel and you in the costume. The footage of you knocking on the door :)

Wood paneling makes so much more sense when you are showing off gold frames.

Yay! I was your first 👍 and your first viewer!!!

I love the kitchens best, (...maybe I know my place!).
I think you can get a feel for the people who lived in the palace by how they treated their ‘downstairs staff’!

(...although that needlework was really lovely too).

Ooh! The reenactors were in the kitchens when you were there! And it is great to see the exhibit of the famous altar cloth made from Queen Elizabeth I's dress!

Does the cafe at Hampton Court serve triangle kimbap, or did you bring your own? Enjoyed the video :)

What do you mean it’s lost!? Is that the fabric the dress was made of?
