The process of purchasing your first Tiny home can be just as overwhelming as purchasing a traditional home 10x the size! In this video we’re breaking down where you should get started and where you should focus your energy to get the very BEST tiny home purchasing experience.

We’re separately discussing what we each think to be the TOP 5 things to consider. So technically you’re getting the TOP 10! Our aim is to help smooth out the purchasing process for other future tiny house prospects. We remember wishing we had the answers to some of these more in depth questions, so anything we can do to help you, we’re happy to do!

Some of the most important things to do include:
1. Research, research, research!
2. Having an exit strategy (hear me out on this!)
3. Visit local builders in your area
4. Set your (firm) budget
5. Determine where you will park
6. Determine if you will build or hire
7. Secure financing (it might not be a tough as you think!)
8. Downsize, downsize, downsize!
9. Know your builder (extremely well!)

Love finding your channel ! First thing is to read the fine print of your tiny home build contract ! Make sure you are aware of any hidden clauses like a NDA or non refundable “key money “ fees just to rent your lot on top of your monthly potential . Check out company reviews, BBB reviews. Take to people who have owned a home by that company . Also, make sure you are not paying builder to build their land with your money and other buyer’s who have paid in full . Check out the time frame for your build and what amenities will be in your tiny home community. If they are still building communities find out how long have people been waiting to pay for their tiny home build and still don’t have it . Just be careful and don’t believe everything you see on a companies YouTube page. Talk to people who live in the tiny home communities. See what their experience has been to get repairs or help from the company after you send them a check .

That was just good life advice in general but for tiny homes, I would add to find a tiny community and stay a couple of days in one just to see if you even like the feel of sleeping and living in the space before you invest. :)

I am completely overwhelmed with trying to find a company. There are so many builders out there & they all have aspects that I want. Then some have standard items included that others don’t. So then that leads me to the fact that just about all of them offer a customization of your home but that’s where costs get completely out of control. And then we can get in to the fact that some of the builders that may be in my area are out of my price range or they build homes that I’m not happy with so I look at other builders and I’m getting into a shipping cost situation. So back to my original sentence I’m getting completely overwhelmed just trying to find a company. So if anybody has any references of a reputable builder between $50, 000-$70, 000 post it!

Excellent video, love the 5 thing each concept. My wife and i are thinking about doing Van life at least part time. One thing we didn't think about was the exit strategy. No matter the venture I believe you should have an exit strategy even though some might say you're not fully committed but you never know what might happen none of us expected a pandemic but here we are. Downsizing has become my biggest challenge-- I've gotten rid of lots of the "easy" stuff, now it's come down to the stuff I need to figure out if it's worth keeping paying storage for. Thanks for all the good tips.
