2 STROKE OUTBOARD BETTER PERFORMANCE MORE POWER

In this video I will be installing a new CCMS (Chris Carson Marine Services) composite reed valve and crankcase stuffer kit. The kit I have is for a Mercury 2.5 liter V6 but CCMS provides composite and high performance parts for all the top manufacturers of two stroke outboards.

Thanks for the video. I was looking to replace my reeds and I had no idea these aftermarket reeds were available. I put my order in.

How cool is that, ,,, ccms sent you another set of reeds and stuffer kit to do a I'm in the middle of a semi restoration, it's a 2.4 200, 86 model, , , , less than 200 hours from new, , , , I'm going to do the reeds as 25+ yr old stainless isn't my preference over the safety of the ccms I first came across this product in about 95 when I watched a mate build a 2.5 225, with wiseco, bobs tuner, a port job balanced and it was the smoothest idling outboard I've ever seen, , , , but I'm going to add the carbon spacer as well, , , , just because, I don't need the extra performance, but ccms sells them so I'll buy 1, ,,, loved your video, and the clean and no need for power tools, , , firm snug by hand, , , , take care enjoy watching

I put a set of boyson power reeds on an old Johnson 115. Picked up 400rpm's on the top end, same prop.

After I watched this, I called them and ordered a set for my 200 merc, I walked down to the boat and removed carbs, & manifold. Low & behold, in one of my reed blocks, I found a partial zip tie lodged in one of them. Glad I watched your video. Also, your lower unit turned out "Tits" you did a gr8 job!

I put the CCMS reeds in my twin 150 optimax set-up and it absolutely improves idle and throttle response; likely improved HP.

Might I suggest lapping the block before installing new reeds and some blue loctite on all the screws. Just a thought that might help you and someone else out.

great info, something for me to do over the winter, along with a new head and gaskets.

After installing these reeds on my Yamaha 97 75hp about 2 years ago and having been chasing a problem that kicked my motor into limp mode I’ve realized that it’s the reeds. Not sure if im the only one to get bad ones but I figured it out after replacing every piece of everything else that can cause the limp mode to kick in. Replaced the oil pump because it’s oil injected, fuel system, and water pump and thermostat. Finally realized that these reeds rev your engine to high to hit the rev limiter.

I just installed a set of these in my 2002 EFI 200. Gasket will be here tomorrow. Anxious to see the results. Also found a bad MAP sensor as well. Out of the 48 reeds, I had 12 not seating (.030"+ on most).
Should be a massive improvement. I was looking more for the fail safe part of the reeds, but will take the performance boost as well 😁

I'm going to have to order a set of these for my dad's 1996 mecury 150 efi cylinder 1 and 6 seem dead when pull spark plug wire I check compression and spark both good even checked fuel injectors and seem to be working so the only think left that I can think of is reeds.

Just for an info - in any case with a softer reeds you will have good idle and middle, with a stiffer reeds you will have better middle and +500-600 RPM on top. You will not have any power improvement with any reeds, just a change of engine "feeling" how it behave on a certaine RPM. This is a rule for 2-strokets... All the best from Russia.

Lol I took my 60s 2 stroke 3.5 Chrysler motor and bored it out, rebuilt it and now I think im close to 15hp. Definitely between 10 and 15. Deals with the columbia river just fine with my little John boat. But tbh if I didnt have a machinist friend it wouldn't have been worth it.

Thanks for the video! I just received my reeds and stuffer kit from CCM. I noticed on the first block that there is a slight gap between the block and some of the reeds, showing light through. It seems to be better if I flip the reeds over, but still a gap on a few reeds, about 10 thousandths. Is this acceptable? There were no gaps with the stainless steel reeds. Thanks for your help!

hey man, excellent videos! just ordered my CCMS reeds n stuffers. I have 05 Merc 250 EFI, My issue is not rough idle or running rough, but NO crankcase pressure coming from the on-way check valve to pressurize my onboard oil tank. I hope this will fix my problem.

Carson reeds fray and chip easily. Boyesen is your best bet!

is there no need to lap the block if the rubber coating is in good shape?
