In this part of my new character modeling tutorial series for Blender 3.0 we will work on the high poly mesh of the helmet.

0:00 starting on helmet
3:08 loop cut - check 'even' to make it flat and parallel
4:20 M to merge by distance
5:00 E to extrude then alt s to move along normals
8:00 subdivision surface modifier
8:10 shift E for an edge crease to make edges sharp again when using sub surface
12:29 shade smooth in object mode

useful tip: 5:00 you can also use Alt + E to get the extrusion options and chose extrude along normals from there

5:00 You can do that easier by pressing E to extrude and then S right after that. That way you can immediately extrude along the normals.

In case anyone had the same issue I did: @3:48 where we add a loop cut I needed to check "flipped" as well as "even"

13:08. Yeah. I was like, You can't sculpt on a subdivision modifier.

Hi! I'm wondering if the discord server is down because the link in the description isn't working for me. My model looks fine up to this point but my wireframe is somewhat screwey and its messing up my subsurf. I tried manually moving it, using S shift Z to level it and also the edit tool. Not sure what to do, might redo the hat someone helppo 😭
