The Daily Examen - A Guided Journey Through Reflective Prayer & Meditation

The Daily Examen is a method of prayer that Saint Ignatius of Loyola taught in his Spiritual Exercises. It is a technique of prayerful reflection on the events of the day in order to detect God's presence and discern his direction for us.

IMPORTANT: Enable subtitles to have narration displayed on screen.

Mandy Thompson published a short video on Facebook about taking care of your soul. In this video she invited people to experience the practice of using the Daily Examen for a period of seven days.

Mandy and I (Fred McKinnon) have collaborated on projects before and decided to come up with our own version of the Daily Examen. Mandy wrote the guided remarks and I composed the original musical soundtrack. There is no better voice than that of our friend, Keenan Carter, from Saint Simons Island, GA. Keenan graciously came into the studio and recorded the narration.

Together we hope that this guided journey for prayer and reflection will be something that you can revisit frequently. Find a quiet place and follow along with the guided instructions and participate willingly, humbly, and freely.

Fred McKinnon is a Georgia-based pianist and composer. His music is ideal for devotional times of prayer, meditation, instrumental worship, soaking worship, studying music, sleeping music, and relaxation music. It includes both solo piano and orchestrated music that is perfect for personal listening, soundtracks, and film scoring.

His desire is that the music he creates would inspire others in their faith or personal times of contemplation. Some have characterized these piano instrumentals as "healing music", "background music", "prophetic music", "study music", "meditation music", "calming music", "soothing music", and "relaxing music".

In religious settings, Fred's music has been played as background music for soaking worship, altar calls, prelude music, and music for personal and corporate prayer and devotions.

Fred McKinnon's instrumental music is also frequently used in schools and classrooms because of the calming affect it has on children and is used to help people rest and sleep better, such as those with insomnia or sleep disorders.

Another frequent use of this music is in the world of fitness and physical care, such as yoga, massage therapy, and stretch or de-stress classes.

❤ Thank you for this meditation. For me it is peaceful and to walk through the day that has passed has helped me to find God who is The Divine even as i live each day. There is no other Divine, only God, Jesus walked amongst the people, the holy spirit the comforter came. Be blessed all of you. Divine is a beautiful glorious worship of our Lord God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit.
This meditation of Ignatius Loyola, it may not be exact, but I'm sure St Ignatius Loyola is & has guided & is with Fred, has guided him. God bless you all this Christmas 🎄 Fred and your family & those who have helped to put this meditation of Ignatius Loyola together

Thanks so much for this video Fred, I can't put into words how appreciative and how much hearing this examen grounds me, I listen to it more than once a week and it hits my heart every time 🙂

Nice background music, Fred. This meditation guidance is not an EXAMEN that Saint Ignatius of Loyola taught, in the absence of conversation with God.  An EXAMEN is always full of gratitudes and thankfulness for HIM. And we close the EXAMEN with asking HIM to guide us in the next step ahead...

Love this! Thank you. Do you have this music in a separate video without the guidance of the Examen itself? We do a guided mediation on a couple of retreats and this is the perfect background track. Thanks!

Yep, this definitely not an Ignatian Examen. Not naming God (saying "the divine") plus "setting an intention" seems like there's some New Age-y influence here.
