I was able to watch an early screening of Batman Caped Crusader on Prime Video, and this is my official series review and reaction to these 10 episodes. Did this season one work for you? What is your favorite Batman Series?

Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human: The Batman. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.
Starring Hamish Linklater as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and featuring a star-studded ensemble cast including: Christina Ricci, Jamie Chung, Diedrich Bader, Minnie Driver, Mckenna Grace, Eric Morgan Stuart, Michelle C. Bonilla, Krystal Joy Brown, John DiMaggio, Paul Scheer, Reid Scott, Tom Kenny, Jason Watkins, Gary Anthony Williams, Dan Donohue, David Krumholtz, Haley Joel Osment and Toby Stephens.

From the minds of executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm, season one of Batman: Caped Crusader arrives August 1.

Linklater is great as Batman. But as you said, there needs to be more of him, and he needs to talk more when facing the villains to try to appeal to them.

I liked Harley Quinn when she was in costume and even in the therapy sessions, but found her unbearable when she was hanging with Barbara and crushing on Montoya.

The storyline with Catwoman was a bit baffling. She got caught instantly but still managed to evade jail time even though there were eyewitnesses. The plan to put her behind bars was to take photos of her, even though she got caught red handed again.

I feel like some of the scenes don't flow very fluidly and there are many cuts. Batman just magically appears where the action with the other characters is happening without showing us how he deduced they would be there.

I wanted to love this because Batman was the best cartoon in the 90’s and animation is gorgeous. So it upsets me when side characters soar and Batman just drifts on buy in his own reboot.

I enjoyed the season but I kinda wish we got better fights cuz they didn't get me hyped like the animated series and other batman cartoon

The problem I’m having is with The ethnicity swap and gender swaps. The reason I’m having such a problem with it is because when you do that in the 40s you’re basically skipping all the problems and history of the 40s, which makes the stories very bland and sort of white washing history. Basically it’s saying racism and sexism didn’t exist in the 40s which just feels wrong. I thought the show was at least going to have the same atmosphere and maturity as Batman Year One, but it feels more like a kid show pretending it has some kind of edge. Frankly when I saw the first two episodes nothing really excited me or kept my attention, which is odd considering I am a huge Batman fan.

It doesnt take place in the 40s, the shows aesthetics is just made to look like the 40s. The time period can be any time period, it could be 2024 in that world but thats just how the world looks.

Honestly as someone who grew up watching Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in the 90s and early 2000s. I like this new animated series. Binged this entire season and I’m intrigued to see season 2 with Joker.

this felt very pulpy and 1940s to me because of the way that people dressed, talked, and the presence of analog technology.

Two episodes in and I like it. Just wish there was more Batman. Voice actor is amazing my favourite in a long time.

Also I don’t think the show is suppose to take place in the 40s. All of Bruce Timm’s shows and Arkham games are timeless. They don’t take place in a specific decade they borrow elements from all over America’s timeline. This one leans more into the 40s but I dont think it’s literally suppose to be the 40s.

According to Bruce Timm BTAS is always happening now. Whenever the viewer is watching it and Batman Beyond is 30 years from whenever now is. The feeling you described of things feeling off is intentional.

Anywho great review

I really fw this one. It really showcased how Batman is a sociopath, but in the end gained some of his humanity back. It’s great. I wasn’t sure about where it was going, but it’s a 10/10.

I really enjoyed the show. I binged all 10 episodes. I felt like I was watching Batman the handmaid series again. All of your grapes didn’t bother me at all. My favorite villain was either penguin or Harley Quinn. Favorite episode maybe the Catwoman one. I found it interesting how she lost it all at the end of the episode.

BtAS had an entire marketing empire backing it up in '92. It was coming out along with Batman Returns, a sequel to one of the biggest blockbusters of that era. The animated series HAD to be good though because it needed to encouage the sales of millions in toys, games, books, apparel, etc. This trend continued with the Superman Animated Series and following shows but with diminishing returns.

Caped Crusader has none of these responsibilities.

For better or worse, whether the show ended up being good or not means another season maybe but there's no outside corporate preasure demanding it be great or appeal to the biggest/most normal demographics in order to sell extra products.

There were probably no studio notes, no Standards and Practices or ratings boards to keep the series on track either.

The drive for excellence, to live up to what we all wanted this show to be was left in the hands of the creatives and has delivered mixed results.

It looks like they’ve planted the seeds for events that will evolve this Batman’s character in Seasom 2 and beyond.

Did they say or wrote anywhere that the story takes place in the 1940? It may look like but that does not mean it is. I never felt Barbara as the main character of the show. I'm not sure what show some of you were watching. It felt like a Batman show with a good cast of characters surrounding him. I did not care much for the pinguin and it was not because it was gender swap. I just did not find the first episode that interesting.
