It’s so unfortunate that 3 ER visits, complaining of non stop coughing, chest pain, pain when I breathe I was sent home with drugs. After 3 weeks of so some much pain, my primary doctor ordered a CT without contrast and ultrasound an came back that it was my gallbladder. I met with a surgeon who was ready to remove my gallbladder. I went back to the E R again and a concerned doctor took time to listen and ran more testing. It was not gallbladder, it was a PE.

They diagnosed me with a collapsed lung aka a pneumothorax, the pulmonologist kept insisting that it was caused by smoking but I never smoked a day in my life. She was of no help at all and I felt harassed by all of her assumptions about me. I now learned that it was PE that caused it because before the collapsed lung I was bed ridden because of an injury at work which led me to be immobilized for some time. Medical professionals need to stop with the assumptions and really lay out all the possible outcomes. I am sorry to hear that so many other people have been a victim to PE and had to undergo various other treatments that weren’t related to the problem. Thank you for bringing awareness to this simple yet overshadowed problem

I use your techniques and acronyms in outpatient Internal Medicine, it saved a patient with an undiagnosed PE discharged from Urgent Care back to PCP. Though subtle, like you always said keep it in mind and it’ll save your patient’s lives! Thank you 🙏

I have had a recent HX of DVT and bi lateraling PE. They were missed! I have been coughing up blood clot and d dimer negative . Do not always count on D dimer tests. I love this convo because you address the non typical PE. I am non typical every single time. I also have an unknown genetic blood clotting disease but thinners do not work for me. If you can believe that I am one of those people that most Hematologists hate!!! I wish more doctor could hear this! Thank you for touching on major aspects of my life. My mom died of bilateral PE and stroke in 2006. I am her biological twin.

I recently was diagnosed with multiple large clots in my right leg behind the knee and then a PE in my right lung. I am very fit with a HR of 40bpm, competitive cyclist with a low BMI. I was missed multiple times by my drs apparently because I never experienced any pain. Being Autistic (Aspergers) I register pain very differently to an NT individual and it took a dr to realise there was something seriously off (despite not ticking the pain box) and demand a ultrasound and CT scan, something 5 or 6 Drs failed to do. Happy to be here and glad I found a dr that was so switched on.

I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos! I’ll be applying to PA school next summer, and these bits of knowledge here and there are so motivating! Thanks for sharing!

It took me three weeks to be diagnosed with a PE (28F) and it was diagnosed with a d-dimer and CT with contrast dye at a huge teaching hospital. It had been diagnosed as pneumonia a week earlier by a smaller clinic. I was so mad it got missed and took so long. I had a fever for 25 days with mine.

I went on a 9 hour road trip to Nashville, The very next day I was at work and got a really bad cramp on my left calf that will not go away. Few days later while driving I felt like the wind was knocked out of me and could not take a deep breath cus it hurt so bad. When I got home and told my wife she offered to take me to the ER but by that time I was feeling a little better. Next day at work I loose my breath again and as I walked to my car my apple watch showed my HR jump to 164 (I was a cyclist this was crazy for me to see with a simple walk) 3 Months later with constant shortness of breath and 5 different trips to the ER all they did was take x-rays and tell me that my lungs are fine and its anxiety they take my pulse and say its normal(when sitting down) as soon as I walk a bit there comes my chest pain and High HR. I have been bed bound and can walk to my damn mailbox I feel like im dying and I know for a FACT its not anxiety. I was extremely active on a daily basis before this happened. No one takes me serious, They tell me im only 30 and there is no reason for me to feel like this.

I had a patient with painful varicose veins, we did a LE doppler, had a DVT and a PE with no symptoms! They only had slight chest pain after the DVT was discovered! it was really crazy how we caught that with out actually having any other symptoms! Anyway!! great videos!!!

WOW! Again, a great podcast. My partner and I always discuss runs we have been on to see how we can think outside the box in terms of things we cant see. On a chest pain call, we always check for ankle edema, but now, we will also perform a Homans sign. Thank you so much for giving your EMS fans another tool on our belt! Stay safe, brother!!

I believe I have a pulmonary embolism. I told the doctor I started to having rapid heartbeats and getting exhausted quickly after breaking my left ankle. Oh my symptoms keep getting worse simple tasks are exhausting and cause sweating and rapid heartbeat. Blood pressure is elevated when I have had a history of low blood pressure. How do I get a doctor to listen and do a CT scan?

I had a PE one month ago, I was treated like if I had pneumonia. Difficult diagnosis.

If you’re examining a patient, and when you press on the area they’re hurting and you can cause pain there, and when they make certain movements and it hurts in those same spots, would you lean more towards muscular skeletal? Is that enough to dismiss PE?

I had phantom pains in my leg about a month ago and it went away then I had major pains in my chest, I couldn't breath and just standing would make me dizzy, and coughing up flim with blood. Lots of Tylenol healed this and I wasn't aware it was a clot. Now my leg is in pain again and very swollen and im getting worried.

I had a afib ablation and after coming out of the procedure about 2 hours later I had acute sharp pains by my left breast and shortness of breath the nurse kept saying that its normal
And I insisted she tell the dr. She said he said I'm sore from the procedure but it was strange felt like a ice pick poking at those specific areas. That would happen when I breath. I'm on day 4 and my chest does hurt theres sharp pains mainly on the side of my heart but a it on my right as well. I'm exhausted still havent got my energy back I'm honestly to tired Togo on a mission to see if i have a embolism I'm trying o sleep thru it iguess

I have a clarifying question, when doing the homans sign isn't it possible to accidentally dislodge the dvt and causing a MI, stroke, or PE.

I was put on Prednisone 20mg & Topamax by a neurologist for migraines. After 3 days, became SOB went to the ED. DDIMER was pos, yet chest CT was clear. Why was the Dimer pos? Could the prednisone have done that? I stopped both meds after tgecED visit.

Anyone have experience with healing completely from their blood clots? My aunt is in ICU and had a TPA which had a side effect of internal brain bleeding. Now they put her on thinners. The clots are still there. How do I help get rid of these suckers?
