When a blood clot travels through the bloodstream to the vessels of the lungs it is called a pulmonary embolism (or PE) and it can cause a lot of problems, as pulmonologist Dr Sandra Adams explains in this video. The most common signs and symptoms include shortness of breath, cough, chest pain (particularly when breathing in), coughing up blood, fainting or feeling dizzy, breathing fast or having a fast heartbeat for no reason. If you have any signs of a dangerous blood clot, see your doctor or call 911 immediately.

The symptoms my wife Christine Antoneo Smith complained of when she called me on December 22rd 2015 while I was on duty (LEO) 30 miles away was " my heart is beating out of my chest and I can't breath "

5 1/2 hours later after I took her to the emergency room as I helplessly watched a room full of doctors and nurses fight to regain a died at 02:36 December 23 rd 2015. She was only 41 and was about to be a new grandmother to our 1st granddaughter.

High doses of blood thinners, intubation and CPR were useless. (All were protocol)

If you have DVT, for God sake. Don't minimize the risk and think it's nothing. Stay on top of it. Your family and friends need you.

I swear to god I honestly hadn't known that I had a blood clot in my legs as the symptoms were vague but then I had the crisis that had led me to drag myself into a and e after I was frightened!

I know the signs now though and I am religious with my medication!
