A crazy amount of video game related items were taken to goodwill by one person. Happy about the find but sometime wonder what people are thinking donating this stuff.

There are so many reasons why people would donate stuff to a place like Goodwill rather than trying to sell it on their own. Some have already been listed such as the kids moving out and the people not knowing that the stuff had any value. Or perhaps maybe they actually feel that Goodwill provides a nice service and their donation is a way of helping them out. Some people put money in the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle, others donate items to the Salvation Army Thrift store. Maybe with some of these items they saw how they caused problems for their kids and just want them out of the house. I have seen lots of people commenting on how people are stupid for getting rid of gaming stuff for nothing, but then if the same person were to have done their homework and tried to sell the stuff for what it is worth at a yard sale or something, they get ripped on for that.

Also, to many people video games are just "things" like anything else in their life. Hey, we don't use that old set of dishes so let's donate them. Have a closet full of old clothes, donate them to make room for new stuff. Does everyone check all their clothing to see if there is any collector interest in it? I doubt it.

I'm poor, my mom is a single mother with two kids and it's hard for me to find a job to help her since I have to study and work hard to get better grades in school if I want a scholarship. So the fact that someone donated something as great as all those games and counsels just makes me wish I was there. We don't have a lot of things in our house and all we have is a few movies, an old dvd player my mom bought at Value Village and some books also bought at Value village. If I ever go to a good will and see this I will spend all the money I've saved up from the small allowance that I'm given along with the lunch money I have and buy what I can.
Thank the people who are kind enough to donate things like that there.
Love the vid, by the way, makes me want to just head on over and start searching for a multitude of things.

1.)  Some people have absolutely no idea the value of the items.
2.)  Some people don't care and just want to get rid of stuff as soon as possible.  That in itself is valuable to them.

Came across a few times at garage sales, kids move away, parents dont understand. Also used to live in a college town and when students would take off for the summer TONS of stuff would get left behind. Resident assistants and landlords go through and clean out the stuff left over and donate it. Beginning of the summer was the best goodwill time for me.

I picked up a play station 2 with everything except the power cord out of a trash can full of construction garbage. I went for a walk at my wifes cousins and and couldnt believe it. There was nothing wrong with it. There was a mess of Madden foot ball games with it but left it in the garbage. Our goodwill now puts stuff on a website. I didnt know that, and personally find all my treasures on the sales floor. We get employees that have no idea what the value is on stuff and just mark stuff for whatever. I picked up a RC Plane for $14 that works just great. I couldnt even get one for parts on E-Bay for that price, let alone shipped. I was planning on using it for parts but found out it was better than the one I needed the parts for. That one is still sitting in its box waiting for parts. Awesome find!

Oddly, this happens all the time. My girlfriend is a manager of a goodwill and she tells me all sorts of cool stuff arrives all the time, not just video games, but toys, comics and dvds.

The usual cause of people dropping stuff at goodwill is they are cleaning up house and they just unaware what they have. Sadly, my cousin lost his entire SNES collection because of this while away in college.

some of us sometimes get blessed and some of our stuff we just like to take to the goodwill to give someone who has less or has struggled in life and for whatever reason I like to think that my goods will do someone good that's why its called goodwill but I guess you sir are too much into your world of being a greedy ass collector and you didn't stop to think about what is behind the GoodWill name, have a good day and hope my comment answered your dilema about why people take goods to the GoodWill.

It hurts to think that people give that away with no thought process, but hey, that's the point of channels like ours!

People give to Goodwill because Goodwill is an excellent community outreach resource. Supporting and donating to Goodwill helps the communities where they are.

Goodwill is a charity organization, they aren't a trash drop off.  Yeah, it's annoying that they don't always sell things for what they are worth, but don't fault the people who traded something into charity for that.

My mom tried doing something similar to this to me when I was away for a school trip for a week.. Pretty much while I was away, she got all my old consoles NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, Gameboy, GBA, etc... And my games, one of those games being Earthbound! And tried to take it to Goodwill, I thank god every day that my Dad stepped in and told her to fuck off with that shit because she knows good and well what they mean to me. Women, whether it be your wife or mother always like to sell shit that seems "old" or "useless" to them.. But do they realize what they mean to the people they're taking them from? Like seriously, I can never forgive my mom for this lmfao. Great video by the way.

Some people don't think things like consoles and games are worth that much, or just don't care about them to do the research. But hey, you can't go wrong with that. ;) Great finds!

that expanny pack is worth the $25 alone, good score pal.

I found a madden 13 when that mug was going for $80 sealed. I just happen to roll into a g will and found it laying on the shelf one day, about poo'ed my pants

I think what bothers me more are the stores that pay little to nothing for games. We have a chain called Half Price Books that will pay you like 5 dollars for a game worth $200. Yesterday I saw a mint CIB Sunset Riders for SNES and thought "why would someone sell that to THIS place?!"

Honestly I think people are indifferent when it comes to these things sometimes and don't look at the monetary value.  They just look at the personal value and say to themselves "I am not using this ... time to get rid of it" Some people are just too busy as well and perhaps $40 is nothing to them.
