Yall completely misunderstand the characters of Near and Mello. Near and Mello are two halves of L. Near representing pure logic and strategy, while Mello representing rash, emotional, and desperate attempts to succeed. They are two sides of L’s personality and way of thinking (as we see that he portrays both characteristics in the show). That’s why they had to work together in order to beat Kira and surpass L.

Near is definitely not smarter than L, the reason he was able to catch kira was because of L's work before he died.. it was far too convenient for near to just guess that the second L is kira

Actually, L had Watari delete all data on the Kira investigation. This includes suspects. Near did not have access to all the data. He hardly had much data to work with. He did have enough to speed things up. Also, Just a fun fact, Near's real name is Nate River.

The point of near was to be paired with mello to equal and maybe surpass L, but the anime did the second half for the manga dirty

L is smarter than Near, but a misconseption is that Near and Mello had all the information that L got while he was alive, this is false, all the evidence collected was deleted when Watari died, which is why Near asks Light’s group all these questions that L already knew.
