Dave looked like a gazelle with that little jump he did. Loved it.

Hi David I used to do this kind of thing back in the film days, by use of 2nd curtain flash. But I had the camera on the tripod and I used a longer shutter time, about 1 second. I remember one time I did it with a bicycle racer, all dressed and with the helmet, it turned out great thanks to the bicycle wheels with all those metal spokes. I never tried with a digital camera.

Hey David! Awesome video. Very helpful info. What model of flash did you use? Wondering how much the type of flash affects the final image

Loved the bit where you " demonstrated " the leap forward 😂. I find shots of this type work much better when the subject is going across the frame as apposed to towards the camera.

The last bit where Kiara is playing with the camera almost has a music video flavor. Wonderful edit and those are some unique shots. Cheers to both!

David this was awesome, I love the effect. I did something like this but I used a tripod and had the model stand in front of graffiti and I twisted the lens and hit the shutter button and got a very similar effect with the face being sharp. I also did the same thing with cars standing still and got the blur and the cars looked like they were moving. Like this it takes patience and practice. I did it enough to where I was able to do it sometimes hand held. Great job as always David. Your chemistry with the model is great.

Ok before I watch the video:

I know what I’m about to say is out of subject but I went out to only get the a7riii for my wife birthday present. Bought it went to my daughter house played a little with the camera and then left her house to come to mine and inexplicably stopped by the camera store and that time bought the a7iii with the Sony 90mm f2.8 macro, the 16-35 f2.8, and 85 f1.4! Yep almost all of my Christmas bonus gone!!! I deserve it. Now I officially have, Canon, Leica, Phase One, Fuji, and Sony 🤕🤒.

Is to be blame for me buying the Sony’s! 😇

Thanks for the video. Beautifully done! The outtakes at the end are hysterical. I have tried this technique with a Sony a7r and find that even with rear curtain sync, I get a small amount of "front-trail" as well as the rear trail. (The faster the object is moving, the longer rear and front trails.) Any idea why this is happening? It makes sense to me that there's a very short amount of time between when the flash fires and the shutter closes, but none of the demonstrations I've seen online mentions or shows the effect. Thanks!

Can someone explain me why everybody use rear flash and hope to get nice shot after? Isnt it better to fire the flash first and then play with the lights? Thats how I shoot things to get this effect for years and I'm still confused about that REAR flash thing. This dude literally shoots a bunch of photos and hope to get nice shots

I do This without modeling light... and the effect are about the same...
