People who think this path could NOT lead to a successful career in CS are the same who believe getting a traditional degree guarantees them a job. Delusion...

Im so happy, my dad doesnt let me study computer science, because he thinks some chinese guy would steal my place, I just really love computer science, I was thinking that maybe if I get the degree by myself and getting a degree about what my dad wants me to do, may be I would live happy

I am following the OSSU Path and I am completely self-taught. I am about to finish the intro to science class with MIT. I think these courses will help provide me with fundamentals while I gain practical knowledge by working on projects by myself.

I think at the very least this will give a person a taste of a 4 year degree. Try some courses and see if the path to computer science is truly your goal. Thank you Wes for showing us the websites that bring all this information together. 👍

Misleading title! Please change the title and your claim for a free four year college degree. This is absolutely not the case. It’s just about having access to some of the college curriculum and may be able to earn some certificates.

I think i may give it a shot. You would have to be strategic with the degree. If you took the classes and got the free degree you could go to an actual 4 year school and see if credits transfer. If they didnt you could test out of certain classes and pretty much get a cheaper degree.

These are the best learning experiences. University degrees are good only if you do the work and actually learn the stuff. Back in my days, probably still true today, we didn’t learn shit at University. Either the teachers didn’t care or couldn’t teach. There were no learning materials other than textbooks. In class, you normally have no idea what the teachers were talking about. As soon as they put something up, they erased it and you couldn’t see the info. You would miss the whole thing. There’s no way to get the info back. These days everything is online. If you can’t learn it online then... you are not going to make it.

thank you very much for the information. This video is very precious, i was searching many things but this video gives me clear picture about cs. I think its just waste of time and money to go to universities to have another degree. thank you so much once again.

Getting a CompSc degree is one thing. Knowing how to code like it's the back of your hand - that is quite another, sir.

Thanks Erik. Shared. These are mostly certificate programs, so they strip down a lot of the extra stuff you have to take at a full university, but these do help you to learn what you need to get a job. Many people have taken these and gotten good industry jobs.

I began that path in the 2021. Before that I could finish the intro to CS part I found a tech job because that company was accepting people with Laravel knowlegde. With the help of various YouTube tutorials I can pass the interview but, my skills had a lot of lack of knowledge. The last year, in October, I continue with that path. I'm currently in another job with a better salary and I think that in November I'd finish that path.

Thank you! I've just started on OSSU Path and am looking forward to completing it.

Today you don't need any certificates. You shall know how to pass an job interview.
No one will ask you what degree do you have and show a diploma.
Much more important expirience and your ability to represent yourself.

It's a cool way to get started and learn the material, but at the end of the day you'll have to take that knowledge and study another 4 years at real university to get a degree certificate that is recognised around the world. If the courses were externally verified and accredited by some exam board, then perhaps they could count towards a formal degree.

Hey Erik, I wanted to ask you something. I am 17 years old and live in India. This year I'll be graduating high school. I was wondering whether to go to college or to go to a boot camp. I am Interested in cyber security. By the way, college is India is cheap compared to us and my family can afford it. And I am in no hurry for a job, just in hurry for the knowledge 😁.
