UN Orders Emergency Meeting On Russia-Ukraine Crisis

After Vladimir Putin ordered what he’s calling “peacekeeping” forces into two new regions of eastern Ukraine, the United States and allies held an urgent meeting at the U.N. Security Council condemning the move and accusing Russia of violating international law. Meanwhile, calls are growing louder for President Biden to impose more severe sanctions now. NBC’s Kristen Welker reports for TODAY from the White House.

Where the urgent meeting on the US southern border?

The NATO pact in 2021 has 30 member countries who asked to join the alliance and had to be voted on by the members to join. At the height of the “Cold War” the Warsaw pact had 8 members who were forced to join by the former USSR. The very reason the former members of the USSR, who are now independent countries, ask to join the NATO alliance is being shown by Russia by their belligerence and aggression against an independent country. If Russia wanted to defuse the Ukrainian Russian separatist conflict in Ukraine, they could allow the ethnic Ukrainian Russians to move back into Russia if they don‘t want to live under Ukrainian rule. Russia has more then enough land in their country and doesn’t need to take lands from Ukraine. Democratic countries have a right to chose and not have a dictatorial country ban them from choosing who they wish to associate with.
