Hello Tanya,
My reading in English is a bit mixed: active and passive.
When I read I try to read straight, let us say a whole chapter, lest lose the thread of the story. At the same time I underline the words that I do not understand and try to guess their meaning by the context. While reading I only use the dictionary when I do not get the sense of a sentence/paragraph. After I finish the chapter, I look up in the dictionary the words I have underlined . Despite of being a tedious work it pays off in the long run. I have to look for less and less words each time.

I read J. Steinbeck, "Cannery Road" together with the German translation "Straße der Ölsardinen" - first one part in English, one in German, next in English and so on... Thank you for your recommendation to use this e-dictionary. It will be helpfull to find the prononciation of the vocabulary immediately.
