I've always felt like it was really weird that this plotline never actually went anywhere, was immediately dropped, and Walter was never a suspect even tho it was so obvious

honestly, i feel if hank were able to catch him this early, he would've been able to help walter get back into the light somehow. perhaps if he had been able to catch him as soon as he met saul goodman, then he'd probably get a light sentence and hank would probably be able to talk with walter without feeling too much guilt for doing so. just a 2 second thought of mine, though.

Ego cuts both ways. Walt couldn’t let Gale take the credit because he was too proud. Hank didn’t realize Walt was the man he was looking for because he didn’t see Walt as his peer.

Its wild because if he would've been caught here and now, Hank wouldn't have felt nearly as betrayed as he would've later. As far as he knows, he's a dying man who got in way over his head and tried to make quick money before he goes out. Now if he finds out about Emilio and Domingo that might shock him, but perhaps he can muster that it was in self defense; nevertheless, Hank didn't have any love for Domingo even if he was his CI. I imagine he must be forced to book him but perhaps he'd even lend him a hand in getting out before he passes.

Also since this would've been an instant catch, I *doubt* it would've been career suicide for Hank?
