This is, in my experience, what separates a good gm from a bad one: the ability to give up your previous plans and follow what works best for everyone's stories

This, my friends, is what a good DM looks like.

Actually, that still sounds interesting.
And it does sound like something one of the participants would do if they were there.

Imagine you Google yourself. As an average guy, you don't expect much, maybe a Facebook profile. Instead, you got a whole Wikipedia page with scientific news articles about you. It would feel insane.
And there's probably hyperlinks to your creators but their page doesn't tell you anything personal, just lists projects and achievements. The deeper you research the lonelier you feel.

I love lore dumps and when my players go out of their way to learn about somthing they get to experience my level of creativity.

someone: "hey, you should look yourself up on the internet!"

rule 1 of being a DM is not to get too atttached to your plans because THEY WILL CHANGE! things will basically never go how you imagine or plan, but that is the magic of d&d/ttrpg

A dm's plotline serves as a fallback plan, and i appreciate the work they put into that, as it helps create unexpected events and memorable moments

I like how he said, wait this is even BETTER! And just rolled with it. 🎉

That's way more interesting. I thought you posted info about the reveal online and the player stumbled into it.

DM'ing truly is the greatest intersection of thought out writing and improv.

Letting go can be so powerful. I always come up with ideas and let the players guide their journey like a "pick your own adventure" the other options can happen later or be reworked for other campaigns

This an absolutely amazing way to handle this. In defense of any that do the contrary, I can say it's harder when you have a hard time doing those reveals if it's derailed entirely. Like the side plans are completely ignored despite "hints" that may just be thinnly vieled begging and yet still doesn't get to happen. Basically, when you are new and not good at improvising to the point of overhauling an entire character side story arc, it can be easy to get railroady sometimes and in those cases that it's not the DM being too close-minded to consider it, don't fault the new dm just understand it's not easy regardless of the dm lifeline tools they may have. Especially any always players becoming new DM's

That's one thing I absolutely love about tabletop RPGs with a decent GM. It's collaborative storytelling.

You sound like a good DM being able to incorporate the players actions into the story you already had planned.

"Look yourself up" oh there are 34 reasons why that could end so bad lol

After a year of being a DM, I've become a lot more lax while DMing. I'm still an anxious mess who sometimes "needs a few minutes" on occasion when players get into bizarre situations, and I'm not sure how NPCs will act. But there's many moments when I shrug at the weird tangents the game goes and just think, "Fuck it, we ball".

Literally even when i dont give hints my players guess my reveals session 1, i feel like im being stalked

You could also have it be done like how Yugioh did it; their past was wiped from history, possibly to hide a great danger, or like King Rhamses where it was done by some haters, or there just isn't a lot of information about them, like the cult kept it all hush hush like the Elysian Mysteries did. That's an option for if you want to keep the suspense and surprise
