I got an epidural that didn’t work. I told the anesthesiologist and my doctor. It didn’t matter. Nothing changed. I’m good at advocating for myself but this took torturous to a whole new level.

Unfortunately Dr. K, many women do tell their doctors it isn't working and they suffer😢. Because they aren't believed. As you see by the comments here, it happens way too often.

It was 1987 in a teaching hospital in the midwest. The newbie anesthesiologist didn't place my epidural correctly. He bent the trocar in my back instead causing the medication to seep under my skin causing a burning sensation. I labored without relief. When it came time to push I exclaimed "I'm not pushing until I get an episiotomy, and you're not giving me an episiotomy until I get a pudendal!" At that moment the attending physician came in. The medical student asked "so what do I do now?" The attending answered, chuckling I might add, "You heard the lady" and completed the task. One push later my beautiful daughter was born, in perfect health. Listen to your patients!

I have a curved spine and the epidural for my first child for an emergency c section (46 hrs labour) didn’t work, in fact spinal fluid was drawn off and I felt the cutting on my right side, I shouted but the surgeon said “if you don’t shut up, you will be put fully out” I told them then do it. Needed 5 pints of blood later which they also had difficulty administrating or even at first recognising I needed.

You are a nice man and a conscientious anesthesiologist. Not all are like you

I went in for a planned csection and the anastigiologist did an epidural because she said she didn't like doing spinals. She didn't believe me when I said I still had feeling and she refused to switch to general anastgia until my daughter was born. My doctor was cursing at her as he worked faster. I've been in for surgery a few times since then and I've been told that anastigologist no longer works at any of the local hospitals, which I find reassuring.

I told them. They didn’t care. I felt every part of my delivery.

Did but he didn't listen. The nurses didn't listen then we went for c section after 36 hours of labor. I of course start screaming like a banshee as they open me up. My husband had to elbow the jerk and all he said but she won't remember anything. I roared I DON'T Bastard.

This happened with my 2nd birth. I’m little and 1st baby was 9 pounds 13 ounces and 23 inches long. I was in induced hard labor for a day and a half before our vital signs started dropping and they decided to do an emergency c-section with placement of an epidural. It worked great - no pain. My 2nd child a year later who was only 7 And a half pounds had to be a c section since my first one was. They gave me the epidural and I seemed to be numb where they were poking me. But once in the OR and the doctor started cutting - I felt every excruciating thing. Felt like someone had taken a hot metal poker out of a fire an ran it across the bottom of my belly. I never scream when things hurt and I couldn’t really move much as they had me strapped down completely to the surgical bed. But I started holding my breath and tears running down my face. I didn’t make a sound but apparently I was moving my belly enough that the GYN started yelling at the anesthesiologist to get me out now!!!! But they had my baby completely out of me by the time I drifted into oblivion. With no working epidural the process of healing was extraordinarily painful and I was weak and sickly for a several months. My next 2 babies and the 2nd one were all within normal limits as far as size and weight but had to be c sections because once you had one, it was considered too risky to do a trial labor. Everything went perfect with them. But I got very sick and nauseated because of the ngasses and medicines they gave me to get me out quickly. They tested me and where they touched me I couldn’t feel it, but where the doctor cut was not at all numb. I am now 66 and have had numerous surgeries but never one like that. It does happen. Ouch!!!!

This happened to my daughter. She was screaming on the table she could feel them cutting her open. She was finally knocked out completely and my 10 pound gbaby was delivered. She's was so traumatized that she's sworn she will never have anymore children.

Ohhh believe me, I told the nurses, the doctors, anyone who would listen that I could still feel the whole one side of my body(after my epidural). I could move and lift my leg fully. I was told I was “imagining” it. I said well then why can I do this(lifting my leg) they said fine, we will give you another epidural (huh)??!! Next thing I knew my daughters heart rate dropped they said we need to do a hysterectomy. I said, as they were wheeling me to the OR “I can still feel the one half of my body”!!! I was told, again, it was all in my mind. They put the table down, drape up, started to cut and cauterize and BOOM, the most horrible immense pain I have ever known then my body (did what it did) and I vomited straight up and it came right back down and I inhaled it…. boom, they knocked me out. I woke up 6-8 hours later, now had pneumonia and the doctor… well, she never came back in to see me again. Thanks Cooper hospital in New Jersey and a doctor from Mullica Hill… you made my delivery absolutely HORRIBLE!!

Problem for my wife was she was feeling the cutting but with the Oxygen mask on no one could here her trying to tell the anesthesiologist. The Anesthesiologist was more focused on the instruments and devices than the fact she was trying to communicate.had I not been there by her side to hear her and alert the Anesthesiologist she would have suffered a Cesarian completely aware of the pain of incisions.

Ah, oh how I wish I had known this, when I was in labour with my Son ( 10.2 lbs) I was 128 lbs at the time of my 9th month & 3 week’s overdue. ( I gained 50 lbs during my pregnancy) Food was my relaxation from being a bit uncomfortable by the 9 th month.) They gave me an epidural; I didn’t know what to do.? My mother( a MSN Nurse) was caring, for my dying grandmother, at the time ~ away from home .

3 epidurals (all failed), 2 spinal block attempts (both failed), my son got stuck in my pelvis and they lost his heartbeat. Off to emergency c-section... I wasn't numb!! I shook the whole time. Ended up throwing up on the cocky anestisologist who kept telling me "I've been doing this thirty years blah blah blah... I know what I'm doing!" Apparently, he didn't know ANYTHING about having a patient with hEDS. I was also closed wrong. Thanks to hEDS... my wound... didn't heal right. Hello hernia central.

When I had my last C-section, they did a spinal/epidural combo (the latter part I didn’t receive a numbing shot for, and felt the entire thing! My husband heard me scream from the other room where he was changing into scrubs!), the epidural portion didn’t work at all, for post-op pain, and so in recovery it was unceremoniously ripped out of my back by the irritated anesthesiologist. To this day I still have numbness in my legs, and cannot tell when I have to pee until it’s pretty much too late, and I have an accident, so I make myself go very frequently to avoid this.

None of my epidurals worked. I had an epidural with 3 of my 4 labors. They never worked . I was never numb. When they told me I had to have a C-section with my fourth child, I explained to them how my epidurals never worked. They gave me a spinal instead. I was paralyzed from the neck down. It was the weirdest feeling in the world.

In 1990, the anesthesiologist didn’t believe me it didn’t work, he said I must have gained weight since my last epidural in 1986, that one only lasted an hour. I gave birth twice naturally and was perhaps better for it in the end for me.

Ive gotten an epidural that didn’t work. I told my doctor and they gave me more. After that I had complications and had to have an emergency c-section.
When they cut me open I kicked them hard because it hurt so damn bad. I heard one of them say, “she shouldn’t be able to wiggle her toe, she most definitely shouldn’t be able to kick us”
They then put me under anesthesia and were able to deliver my premature baby boy. Who was happy and healthy and now is a lovely 2.5y/o toddler😊❤️

Was in an auto accident at eight months and went into labor with, among other things, three broken ribs. It was general anesthesia for me. 😅
Can you please discuss pros and cons of sedation dentistry? Do they use the same techniques and drugs as you do in the OR? Are there risks to consider? Your videos are always so helpful!!

LMAO I am dead. He said “it might make moving forward a little more uncomfortable.” Bruh pretty sure I didn’t need a medical degree to say this much! Lol
