I heard that Cornish Pasties were made to withstand being dropped down a mine shaft. That way, if that happened, the miner would still have a fairly intact meal and not be hungry or anything when they had time to eat. I LOVE Cornish Pasties. So good.

I made cornish pasties for the first time a few years back and used a quite old recipe that called for rutabagas instead of mashed potatoes. I come from a family of farmers and have NEVER really liked rutabagas, but in the pasties I made they TOTALLY became DELICIOUS! I've tried them since in split pea soup and some other recipes and in the right recipe they're pretty great.
