If I had a core for every time you said "there's still a VFIO reset bug, but there is hope" ... I'd have a threadripper 😂

I used to run a Windows VM just for games with an anticheat, and unfortunately, VFIO as a concept died for me, when those games started banning VMs. I just stopped playing those games as a result, and do all my gaming on linux exclusively now. The lookingglass update is really nice though

its a shame that we cannot get past the need of two GPUs with SRIOV .

0:58 the absolute trash talk is immense and I love it Wendell

I thought I finished all my homework. But Wendell said no. VFIO is going to be in my head for several days. Thanks Wendell 👍.

Been running looking glass for almost two years now. It rocks. I'm using a gtx1080 and an arc b580 with the b580 passed through.

I'd really like to see Wendell do a video on the on the virtio-gpu PRs that have been in progress for a couple of years now. It avoids the need for hardware GPU passthrough by essentially passing through the kernel uAPI for the GPU and using Linux userspace drivers slightly adapted to run on Windows. This makes applications in the VM effectively the same as applications on the host, as far as the GPU driver is concerned. No second GPU or hardware passthrough required!

Wendell, thank you so much for working on this project. This is BIG! I know people that would want to go from Windows native to Linux if they could do this easily and well. I can't wait until all this matures shortly.

With proton I don't have a use case for this but I'm glad it exists if I ever need it.

More virtualization content, please Wendell! It's been a few years since the last major roundup video you did. Are AMD CPUs still king of the roost here, or would it be better to use one of the newer Intel chips with Arc graphics for a better host experience? ITX boards that one might use for a teeny-tiny VFIO box?

As a network tech I only wish they'd named it something else because, to me at least, "looking glass" is something internet service providers (ISPs) and the like offer to provide access to their routing infrastructure to do internet level diagnostics.

This looks like what happens when you have some real jank setup to do this... And then someone comes along and says oh you dont need jank. You can have it looking better.

If I can figure out how to play League on this, I'm moving over from Linux Mint in a heart beat. All my files live on my home server anyway so its easy to just shift over.

GOD THIS IS AMAZING and you have no idea how long i spent tweaking and fiddling with Linux Mint and Virt Manager. Can't wait to give this a fiddle and a play.

FU AMD, Intel, Nvidia for not giving us SR-IOV to be able to do this on a single GPU!

1:00 "Some companies don't want you to play games in a virtual machine but really that's just a lack of skills in terms of the programmers securing it." *SIGNS*

I am thinking of setup like this for my next machine, only waiting for new Threadrippers to be released. Great to see this working!

For a second there I got happy thinking Looking Glass Studios is coming back...

I hope, it will eventually be good enough to fool Windows kernel level anti cheat so we can finally convince game devs that only server side anti cheat really works.

its cool and I appreciate that it never stopped development, but I really stopped using vms entirely when wine got good

never imagined KVM passthrough I/O would get this far but it makes me want to start my own stadia ngl
