10 bit means you are capturing exponentially more shades of every colors. 10 bit will help with colors when color grading, so you wont really see any difference if you dont play with colors in post... More shades = less bending also.

Thanks Lee for taking the time on this GH5 review. I pre ordered mine as well and the more good things I see the better I'm feeling about it!

Will this be a good vlogging camera? Can I get a decent lense so we can vlog in selfie mode?

So many people hating on you here in the comments. Let me at least be one to say THANK YOU for taking the time to make this video and give us your opinions. I def feel I learned a little more about the GH5 than before I watched this video. Disappointed in the iso performance but that was pretty obviously going to happen.

I'm pretty interested in the triple stabilization of this camera. I'm coming from a C300 so the size decrease would be awesome, but the loss of internal NDs is going to be a pain

8 bit means old ass video games can be played on the gh5, 10 bit means better video games can be played on the Gh5 ...there you have it

good to see you guys venturing into Panasonic land. For your purposes, the GH5 will work great...I don't see much of your stories done at night but you can always try one of the f/0.95 lenses then. The GH5 also makes a great vacation camera... still takes great stills with IS.

Just beware when shooting timelapses and if you want to create a movie file on the camera. Shoot the timelapse in 16:9 mode. If not, it will be a 3:2 (or 4:3) image in a 16:9 container (black bars on the side).
At least that's how it is on GH4.

Very nice review. I own a Panasonic G85--and it is really an excellent camera---very easy to use and with beautiful image. Low light on a smaller sensor can be an issue, and the solution is the keep the ISO as low as possible.

What works well for me is something you can't do on a full frame camera: speed boosters. I have a Sony a6500 and the G85 and speed boosters work fantastically well on both. I used a Canon mount Sigma 18-35 1.8 zoom on the Panasonic and the speed booster gives it a Super 35 angle of view and drops the f-stop to f 1.1. Same with the Sigma 50-100 1.8.

This enables me to shoot at very low ISOs...keeping my footage very clean and easy to grade. I have a GH5 on order---and I'll definitely be looking to use my Matabones speed booster EF to MFT on it all the time.

IMO Highly recommended for the MFT cameras like Panasonic and Olympus.

You are the only one to point out that 1080p is as good as downscaled 4K.
Very informative THX

the more bits you have, the more shades of colours you can capture with the camera.
the more mbits/s you have the more sharper the image will be in motion.

Hey. What about the ISO performance on GH5 with SPEED BOOSTER/LENS TURBO ? Can you test that out vs the SONY ? You could even use the same sony lens. In general thanks to the speed booster you get the extra light and the full frame of the lens. Also, on high ISO I think that the 10BIT would help a lot. With speed booster and lens like SIGMA 85mm F1.4 it could be the ultimate video combo ;)

Audio will always be an issue when using a DSLR vs traditional video gear with separate audio pots, and when you leave the limiter on all the time you will eventually hear it working in post, that could become a problem. I suggest getting an external mixer (i guess like the Pan. DMW-XLR1) and ride the audio levels manually.

Also the Sony timelaps app is awesome along with the add on to give your timelaps motion like a slider. Fricking amazing.

You used a pretty wide lens on the GH5 for your stabilization test, wider than the A7S. That'll affect how smooth your footage appears.

Have you noticed any jittery footage from the GH5? I don't know if it's my Panasonic 12-35 F2.8 II or the camera but I am getting noticeable jitter when I am not on a tripod.
