Take a look at Ubuntu, Zorin and Linux Mint. Look for LTS editions only.

I'm sorry I don't currently own a Mac. Without personal tests I hate to give advice but look up something called rEFIt from Sourceforge.

Having trouble installing 13.04 on a mac with mountain lion 10.8 i get no such partition error message though i partitioned. any idea why

I would recommend trying Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for stability. You can try using WINE to install Windows software but success will be random.

In a word: bugs. Ubuntu seems to be less buggy than others.

EOL (End Of Life) for XP is April 08, 2014. After that no more updates period. I'll be kind of sad to see it go as it was the first really good Windows OS and has served a lot of people and businesses well over the years.

People like me will stand to make a lot of extra money supporting it for several years to come as those people who choose not to upgrade will run into a myriad of problems continuing to use it.

Hi tos, I'm trying to learn more about Ubuntu and thinking of switching from Win 8. I have one main concern and it may not even be an issue, but I use Photoshop and other open source image-based programs. How is Ubuntu performance-wise when it comes to running a program like Photoshop? Or can i even install it on Ubuntu? I know other factors like processor speed come into play here but any issues I should be aware of with running something like PS on this OS?

Have thought about finding out more about Linux and seeing how it would compare to Win 7 on my Alienware... wondering if it's really make that much of a difference. (I'm just learning this so go easy on me... i'm completely new to Ubuntu) Hahaha :)
