Some basic easy commands without the headaches.

"sudo apt-get update" is equivalent to checking for updates.
You will also need to run "sudo apt-get upgrade" to download and apply the updates.
Another useful command is to type "man" and then the name of another command or program. This displays a man page (manual) that tells you how to use that command. Even though I am quite familiar with the terminal I forget syntax now and then, man pages make life easier.

Hmm, I don't recall the last time I messed with a debugging tool. However, check out something called Strace. If this is not it let me know and I will post a HELP video for you.

i am trying to run Ubuntu in Virtual Box, but i cannot see any panels. The only thing i can do is run the terminal, but i dont know any commands to get the panels to show up. any help is greatly appreciated

Hey tostoday I have a problem with a command on the terminal. Im trying to use the debugger command -g but the terminal says that its not a command. I looked in various forums and tryed using "sudo apt-get install gdb" but it didnt work for me. Im trying to compile for debuggin on emacs just like I do in the computers at my college (they run Fedora) but for some odd reason it doesn't seam to work on my pc. Can you help?
