Casting Silicone into Silicone - Can You do it?

We are casting silicone into silicone. Can we do it? I'm going to show you how to do this with success. Silicone will stick to silicone unless you use a mold release agent. Mold release spray works well for making silicone not stick to silicone. I was nervous the first time I tried it, but I'm not intimidated anymore. I have been making silicone molds for a while now, but I was pouring into hdpe plastic forms. Not anymore. :)

Having made a few molds in my time, I knew the answer to this question: "Yeah! Just use a mold release", but I watched the video anyway and WOW! I'm glad I did. I learned a few things and that studio is gorgeous! I subscribed to see more of what you do and I'm looking forward to it. I'm curious as to what these molds are actually for.

Interesting. I would never of thought you could use the silicone molds to make more molds but it makes sense (as long as you use the mold release)

That's really cool! I've wanted to do that for awhile but have been scared to. I have custom molds I've made of sculpture I created. I want to get a silicone cast of them from the silicone molds. Going to give this a try really soon. Thanks for sharing. Heidi

you may also consider different Silicone shore types. in general, a softer silicone has less crosslinks - meaning it sticks less to a harder silicone base. on the other hand, a hard silicone has more crosslinks and sticks better to a softer silicone base.
Most release agents contain a thick silicone oil dissolved in alcohol - the solvent penetrates your master and may actually cause sticking! (eg. if you used more than a thin spray mist to reach undercuts). The thick silicone oil may melt due to heat and completely loose its releasing properties (eg if you are impatient or use heat to postcure)

Hello Jake,
I love all your videos, you are so down to earth and provide so much valuable information for people who want to learn. My question is do you have a video or have suggestions on how to create round molds and molds with lips inside. I want to make them but not sure how to. Thank you.

Crazy coincidence I just cut up an old mold yesterday to use as filler for a new mold I was making but didn't have enough silicone for.

Hey Jake. On a personal preference, I like the videos that are shorter, like this one. The hour ones are too long for me to watch.
