I do this with a mix of glycerin, corn starch and mineral spirits (to thin the silicone) - the glycerin (the active ingredient in the dish soap) acts as hydration for the silicone to cure. I use a more diluted mix for the first coat and you may need to create a flange around the bottom in most cases depending on the application.

That is a great tip! And good results too! It was odd seeing you out of the bus 🤣

...maybe try dipping it in a thin oil (like baby oil...) drain,
and then molding with the silicone?

Thank you for the tip and Amazon has it all of course!

Just started to use this method to restore roman pottery found in Kent, England. Thank you, works perfectly - and CHEAP!

Could you brush on the first coat? Then wait for it to dry and then re-coat a few times? Or thing it down and paint it on a few times, letting it dry in between as they do with 'smooth on'?

Thank you guys, greetings from Subic Bay, Philippines

Maybe use some nonstick cooking spray? may help, and tapping when you fill the mold with the plaster to get the air bubbles out. may help.

You can thin silicone with paint thinner... so you may be able to thin and pour it...

That was so cool! Does either of you know where I can use a 3D printer? Maybe a place like Kinkos. I have a tiny piece of jewelry I would like to get about 20 or 30 made!

This is a brilliant idea, thanks for sharing! I wonder whether the amethyst would have come out of the silicone if you had brushed it with soapy water (or pure Dawn) beforehand?

Can you reuse the mold or do you have to start over again?

Hey I am really interested in doing multiple casts off of the silicone mold. I was curious if you know how long the mold lasts(its silicone so I'm sure it lasts as long as a traditional silicone mold) and were there any issues with recasting? Thanks in advance!!!

Would it be possible to do the reverse of this? Make a cast using plaster, and subsequently fill it with silicone pour? I need to make some medical training aids to teach people how to treat gunshot wounds and am trying to do it as economically as possible.

Why not use latex? It's cheaper and easier to use. Is there a reason for this?
