Finding Meaning in your Landscape Photography

This week we are looking for the meaning in the work we are creating. Treating it as an art and thinking about the meaning will undoubtedly make us better at landscape photography. Besides, what is the alternative?

I think you’ve hit the nail on head there Adam. It’s about time we as content creators talked more about the 90% instead of the 10%

Love these videos with talk about deeper stuff! Very insightful.
I kind of have the philosophy that, if you ask yourself why you're doing landscape photography (or hiking and so on), and your answer is "mainly for myself". Then you probably have a solid and healthy motivation/meaning behind it.

I could not agree more with the premise of your video today. I care nothing about the technical details of a photograph. I can appreciate the skill in someone using their technical ability and the tools at their disposal to capture an image but what I most crave is the inspiration I get from the image. I want something to move me to go out and seek great opportunities to tell my story. I wish all vloggers would stop all the gear reviews, what's in my bag, and such and focus on their artistic vision, the feelings and emotions they saw as they tried to capture it in an image and how they composed the shot to portray that. Well said Adam.

Thank you Adam for speaking out to why we do this subject, I Do it purely because I love the outdoors, history and just to respect mother nature and all her beauty. There's nothing better than being in tranquility with a camera in hand.

Great job Adam. “Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.”

" Freedom " and the beauty around us. Is where I find my meaning! Great work Adam.

Thank you Adam. When I got started I had serious G.A.S. and loved digging into the technical skills. Now that I have accumulated quality gear and learned the menus, there's nothing left but to focus on the art, and that's a journey I hope will continue the rest of my life.

As someone who just recently found your channel and started watching your videos in the last year - whilst at the same time just started really delving into my own photography when I have the spare time to venture out and hone my skills - watching your videos has helped me a great deal. Video Production is actually my main background and due to my everyday job, was “forced” to learn more about photography in a major way the last 5 years and in doing so I’ve found a new passion and love for the art of photography. Your videos have helped me take a step back and work on overcoming some major writers block (we sometimes all face) when it comes to my own creativity whether for video or photo work. I consistently struggle with the fact that I know it’s not the gear that makes the photographer and am continually trying to find my own meaning in my photos whether it’s with the Mark IV at work or 50D I have at home. Thank you for continuing to inspire fellow photographers whether you’re walking through the beautiful vistas of England or simply sitting in your office at home. It is greatly appreciated. - Massachusetts, Unites States

The beauty of the natural world, the joy of being out in it, and the opportunity to capture a piece of that, is what motivates me.
I'm a rank amateur, and I use old, outdated cameras, low MP, compact pocket cameras, anything I can afford and that I can carry with me wherever I go. I don't need nor can I afford any of the cameras the majority of even amateur photographers start out with. My "best" camera is a Fuifilm S4500. None of those things matter, except that first sentence I wrote.
That is what photography means to me.
Thanks for your videos. It's a joy to follow along with you.

Your content, and that of Heaton, Hilmer, and a few others on YouTube, are all about the art of photography and that's why I love what you all do.

Love this message! Really resonates with me. I rarely mention the technical side of photography in my videos because for me, landscape photography is all about immersing yourself in nature. Just to get out and enjoy it is what makes the process so rewarding and meaningful. Thank you for documenting this 😊

Completely agree with you Adam. The camera is just a tool. Art is what you produce.

A landscape photo is a poem yet to be written: Once again you have hit the nail on the head. You are a absolute pleasure to listen to. Keep on keeping on my friend:

Thank you for putting this part of photography in the spotlight. I miss this in many channels. I hope you can continue bringing more of this into your videos. Very well said.

I love the content of this video. I came to photography first as an artist. The freedom that a camera gave me, to be out in the landscape creating art instead of stuck indoors in a studio, was the  gift my first 'proper' camera gave me. From film I eventually moved over to digital and have to say that what these cameras give us creatively is awesome. I hope you are right and that they never invent one that can gallop up a mountain, take wonderful artistic images, and run back down again! I am now off to sign your petition. Thank you.
