Best pets:
10. Chinchillas: Chinchillas are odorless, which makes them better pets then rabbits or guinea pigs. They need a tall cage with at least 2 stories. They bathe in bowls of special chinchilla dust which you can buy at the pet store. They eat chinchilla food pellets and timothy hay, with a raisin or dried fruit as a special treat. They can live for 15-20 years and are very fun, cute, and active.
9. Tortoises: If your kid wants a turtle, get them a tortoise. They are land animals and they only need a bowl of water to drink. They live for about 50 years, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your opinion. They eat tortoise pellet food and leafy green vegetables. I recommend russian tortoises.
8. Parakeets: Parakeets are very noisy and can learn to say a few words and phrases. They can live for 20-25 years. They eat parakeet food mix and fruits and nuts. I recommend sun conures.
7. Hedgehogs: Hedgehogs are small, prickly animals native to Africa and Eurasia. They need a large cage with bedding that they can burrow in. They live for 5-8 years. They eat chicken cat food and live insects.
6. Ferrets: Ferrets do not smell when they're neutered, they also make better pets this way. They live for about 8-10 years when properly cared for. They eat dry and canned ferret food, I recommend evanger's. It is best to get 2 ferrets as they are social, but one will do just fine if you interact with it a lot. Don't let them around rabbits or guinea pigs, as they have a high prey drive and they will kill them.
5. Snakes: Small, harmless snakes make great pets. They live for about 20-25 years, so be prepared for that. They only need cleaning once a month. They eat mice and rats, which can be a drawback for some. I recommend corn snakes and ball pythons.
4. Lizards: Lizards are very fun pets. They live for about 10-20 years. Most eat crickets, some eat vegetables, and some, like bearded dragons, eat both. I recommend leopard geckos and bearded dragons, but if you don't want to feed crickets to your pet, get a uromastyx, as they are herbivores and eat vegetables.
3. Hamsters: Very fun and low maintenance. They only live for 3-5 years. Don't use cotton, pine, or cedar bedding because those can kill your hamster. They eat special hamster food. I recommend syrian hamsters, as they make better pets then dwarf hamsters.
2. Cats: Cats are very easy to care for and are much more affectionate then people say they are. They can pee and poop in a litter box, which makes them easy to clean up after. They live for about 18-20 years. A lot of people let them outside on their own, but don't do it because it is very dangerous and unnecessary. I recommend evanger's, blue buffalo, and taste of the wild cat food.

When choosing a dog food brand, I always go by this one rule, if you can buy it at a grocery store, it's probably not good for your dog.

5. Goldfish: They can grow very big and when cared for properly, they can live for 20 years. They poop a lot and smell horrible. You can't even play with them.
4. Iguanas: They grow very large, around 4-6 feet long. They can live for 20 years when cared for properly. They tend to be aggressive, especially in breeding season. You should never feed them insects as they are herbivores and insects should not be a part of their diet.
3. Rabbits: Same thing as guinea pigs, except they chew carpet and curtains and need a bigger cage.
2. Aquatic turtles: They poop in the water, which smells horrible. They need a huge tank and a filter. They can live for 20-30 years. They can mistake kids' fingers for food and bite them. If your kid wants a turtle, get them a tortoise.
1. Large parrots: Macaws, african greys, cockatoos, amazons, etc. They are very loud and can hurt your hearing. They live for 50-70 years and they need a huge cage. Some of them bite and some can bite off fingers. If you have the time to dedicate to them, parrots can make great pets, but they are very high maintenance.

Turtles are laid back, slow and won't run away from home? Bullshit...our red eared slider used to make a break for it every time he was out of his tank, and man was he QUICK! Couldn't take your eyes of him for a second or he'd be gone!
