There is a state in Mexico where people consume on average 2.2 liters of Coca-Cola every day. It’s even been incorporated into certain religious rituals, and 3% of babies in Chiapas, Mexico, are given Coca-Cola.

Consuming 2.2 liters of Coca-Cola a day is equivalent to consuming 208 grams of sugar or 52 tsp of sugar a day. In Chiapas, Mexico, heart disease is the #1 cause of death, and diabetes is the second highest cause of death.

Coca-Cola contains fructose, which has a similar effect on the liver to consuming alcohol. It also has glucose, which will delete important nutrients and can lead to many different health issues.

It’s not just sugar that you have to worry about—Coca-Cola also contains phosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid is very corrosive and can cause cavities, an increased risk for osteoporosis, and certain nutrient deficiencies.

There is also a lot of caffeine in Coca-Cola, as well as coloring. The caramel coloring creates a certain compound, which is basically damaged protein. Damaged proteins are involved in many different chronic degenerative diseases.

One of the best decisions I made as a teen was giving up all soft drinks. Water and tea for me baby.

My mother used to drink at least 1 liter of coke every day, became obese, had diabetes, high blood pressure then cancer. She was so addicted to sugary food and drinks and hated every single person who tried to talk to her about her bad diet. Sadly she had breast cancer and died at the age of 52.

This is terrifying ! If you break down what coca-cola IS, we should be suing the company for putting a toxic drink on the market. You can argue that alcohol can be damaging too but everyone knows about the dangers of alcohol - and practically no one about the dangers of coke. (Plus alcohol is supposed to be for adults and coke is fed to kids by unsuspecting parents). A scandal !

by far the hardest part of fasting is the boredom. If you've never done a multiday fast, you have no idea the enormous amount of your daily time is spent thinking about, preparing, or eating food. Depending on your lifestyle, it can be really hard to fill all that extra free time. If you want a fast to be easy, start it when you are very busy

My grandmother loved soda and ended up diabetic. Lost both her legs. The more you learn about sugar, the more of a turn off it becomes.

When I was from about 10 to 18 years old I would drink at least a two liter of mountain dew everyday. My mother would make me drink water. I'm 35 now and I may have drank 1 two liters worth over those past 3 Years. My 3 kids don't drink soda. I treat soda like alcohol to my kids soda is for grown ups. My oldest 14 was at a friend's house for the weekend and he hated it cause their water was gross from the sink and all they had was soda. First thing he did when he got home was drink a lot of our filtered water. He said he felt gross drinking all that soda. I hugged him and said thank you and that I'm very proud 🥲

I did that. My health became so bad I ended up in the ER. Took me years to get back to a better state of health.

This is really scary (coming from someone who enjoyed drinking Coca Cola and gained weight from it)!!! It’s hard to stop, but can be done and is worth it!

Unfortunately, Coca-Cola became cheaper and more widespread, so that in some parts of Mexico it was cheaper and easier to find Coca-Cola than to have access to clean drinking water, and even those suffering from malnutrition started drinking Coca-Cola a lot to get their calories quickly

Friend of mine drank it for 11 years and his health is horrible now. He lost almost all teeths, anxiety on max, liver destroyed, more mental health problems and so on. So sad but true

2.2L doesn't sound like a lot when I lived with my sister who would down 4L a day. Thankfully, I convinced her to stop and begin drinking water more. She's lose 30lbs and feels much better. She still falls back and has soda every now and again but I tell her that it's fine in moderation. Not great, but in small amounts it won't do much harm.

My ex boyfriend (Texan) used to drink ONE GALLON of cola light EVERY DAY while I was with him for 2 years. Absolutely incredible. He had a serious addiction issue. Unfortunately he died of liver cirrhosis due to alcoholism. He simply couldn't give up either vodka or coca cola. This was in 2008. I miss him still. I wasn't able to help. Noone could. It's extremely sad. EDIT: I worked at coca cola for 2 months while with him and when I told my colleagues how much cola light Greg drank, they were in total shock and showed me a metal crate outside of the office building which the cola had eroded.

'Excessive consumption of sugar can be harmful to your health'. This message should be mandatorily printed on such drinks. This will deter at least some people from downing glasses of such drinks. Most people think sugar is harmless.

I'm from Mexico and I have to say it's true, I've seen it myself: women give their children coke in feeding bottle every so often. It depends on the family of course but it's more frequent from what you may think

About 10 years ago, I read "somewhere" (I can't find the article) that it's the carbonation that contributes in a major way to obesity. The article alleges that the carbonization kills the healthy bacteria in our gut that digests sugars. Another person I met had heard the same thing. I've avoided all sodas since. (Fell off that wagon once on a cruise and drank Mojitos. The bags under my eyes became quite pronounced)
Also, one of my older brothers drank that much Coke. He ended up with kidney stones.

I had a job where I had to remove rust from these metal sheets, and it was phosphoric acid that was used. I quit drinking soda after that. I ended up losing close to 20 lbs. just from that. Now when I have a soda in moderation, I go with Zevia. They have stevia sweetened soda and there is no caramel color added.

Those drinks are addictive like a drug or alcohol. Seriously!
Back in 2003 I was drinking 6/12oz cans of Dr. Pepper a day, at least. It took me abt a year to stop drinking them. I did lose 75 lbs. just from stopping soda consumption alone. Next was my fried food/pizza/burger consumption. I did that too & lost a total of 220 lbs by 2008.
I still to this day cannot drink a Dr. Pepper though. I know if I start, I won’t be able to stop. Same with my trigger foods… cake, pastries, candy.
Water, tea, veggies, some fruits, nuts & lean protein for me forever it looks like. Thank goodness I know how to take those foods & turn them into something that looks tasty & is!
🌻💪💖

The funny thing is that when I got pregnant I wasn't able to have coca cola or cola drinks ever again without getting massive acid reflux or bladder infections. It's the caramel coloring flavor that creates the problem.

It was a blessing in disguise bc I used to drink it every couple of days.

Hi dr Berg. I am from Indonesia. Have been following your videos for awhile and also practicing the prolong fasting and omad as well. Its been a great impact to my stamina. Its like that i get nonstop energy. I wanna thank you for that!
Btw in Indonesia, cocacola is not the biggest issue when it comes to sweet drinks but we have so many other local similar sweet drinks that contain extremely high sugar content such as coffee, energy drink and all that colorful drinks that I see everyone drinking it almost every day. I think it has become global pandemic. Indonesian has been experiencing higher number of people with obesity and diabetes. I myself cant even drink cocacola without getting a hiccup after the first zip 😁
