The Hangman Spirit is a mischievous one, always attracted to nostalgic or child-like things. There are various forms off communication, the most recommended of which is a tin telephone. It should always involve writing “Do you want to play?” on a piece of paper. Put the device in a dark place, and wait.

When the Hangman Spirit accepts, a noise would play, fitting whatever device you had used. This includes ringing for the previously mentioned telephone and the sound of a foghorn for paper boats. Pick up your object after the sound plays. The Spirit should respond with a suggestion to play a game. While you can say no to her to back out harmlessly, accepting is the more popular choice. Winning would grant whatever you ask for, no strings attached. Losing will result in your death, and so will quitting mid-game.

Accept the challenge, and you’ll be faced with a simple game of Hangman, prompting you to enter the Spirit’s name. Don’t try altering the paper itself, let the Spirit write on it. Guess correctly, and you win!

Pro tips: the Hangman Spirit changes her name every so often, so be aware of that. She’s not gonna be Casper forever. To end the game early without dying, you can destroy the ritual object. The girl should’ve had a pair of scissors nearby, so she would avoid her death.

Bonus fact: rumors say that the Hangman Spirit was choked to death when she was a teenager. Eyewitnesses say that she resembles those Japanese ghost girls with the stringy hair, but there is no other proof.
