They also do this during the breeding process to appear more attractive to their mate, it’s not always for aggressive reasons💖

My betta fish absolutely love me. Whenever I come home they see me they get so excited and they love it when I'm hanging out near their tanks. I usually exercise them with a mirror for a minute or two so they flare up and stretch out their fins once in a while. I also buy them some shrimp with they love to hunt and chase and eat because they are predatory little stinkers but they're so cute 🥰

My betta would non stop flare at his reflection when I first got him. Now he’s warmed up to his tank so he doesn’t flare often at all….

He does that to me at night, it’s either 1. He’s angry I’m not giving him food immediately or 2. He’s very VERY excited

Guess my betta is defective then. Lil homie gets excited over food and flares non stop until he is done eating. He also flares at his tankmates in an annoyed sibling older way. They will swim in a group no problem but when they pass him, he gets mad and flares until they let him lead lol

flaring is kinda important to keep them healthy. though the people who use this daily flaring training technique keep them in smaller aquariums than they do in the west so idk if in larger tanks it is no longer necessary.

I just got my baby, Pixel today! When he was first at my home, he avoided my finger, scared when he was in a jar thing idk, but now he’s not moving away at all!
