That's why me and my wife mesh together so well. I have autism and she has adhd. I end of taking care of all those things meticulously and orderly because i cant help myself when it comes to stuff like that. it all has to be neatly organized and filed. I bring order where order is needed and she brings the chaos to where it is needed for me. Oh and we both love skyrim and giant nerds so that works to.

This is so true! Countless times this happens to me and has been ever since hs. I find myself buying multiple of the same things that I use daily like deodorant, chargers, fidgets etc just to make my like a little easier and less stressful lol

Thanks for the reminder to pay my cc bill!!
But yes as a person who struggles with execytive function I pay to drop off my laundry instead of doing it myself. I struggle to plan meals so I sometimes order meal kits which is more expensive. I rarely lose things because ive devloped very strict systems for keeping track but i have in the past suffered with impulsive spending on clothes, shoes, and random stuff. I also have had to permanently ban myself from any games with micro-transactions because I always end up spending too much money. I feel like those games are predatory in general, but perhaps a bit more so to ADHD folks.

I’ve noticed that ADHD conversations can actually be applied to all disability. “ADHD tax” = disabled tax because ADHD is a disability. All disabilities need their own conversations since they come in different forms with different limitations but I’m not sure how many other people have thought about it like this yet. Probably a good few but it felt like something clicked when I noticed it. I feel the conversations about ADHD struggles I see highlighted are had by people not having experience with having a physical disability which makes the “disability taxes” VERY noticeable (I say as a wheelchair user + ADHD guy).

on a related note, even aside from the regular wasted time, my TIME was taxed growing up. i'd regularly forget my homework or notebooks and get a half hour detention.

Food is a big one. Buying things in big quantities "because it's cheaper, " and then not using it, so you basically pay way more for the same amount of food you eat than if you bought smaller packages at a higher cost per unit

Simple. Autopays, Reminders to cancel subscriptions, chargers always in the socket. Just use technology and keep your kind free.

Buying clothes all the time because you can never find the item you need so it's easier to just go to the store and buy a new item than dig through your clothing piles, and that's why you now own 6 Denim jackets. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Meds to ease the symptoms aren't cheap either. Before my deductible is met, mine cost almost $80/mo... for the GENERIC version of it.

Lol I didn't even get diagnosed until I was in my 30s and had to have a psych eval for my disability appeal.

All the money wasted on groceries you never do anything with because the thought of having to actually cut them up and prepare them is too much.

I have what I call the migration of lighters. I have like 20 lighters. I lose them, buy another
Then somehow, they all end up together in one spot, like I had this weird NPC pathing that all my stuff ended up together. It makes me mad when I realize how scatter brained I am.

There's also a tax on being a woman. And a tax on not being white. And a tax on being poor. And a tax on having any chronic illness or injury....
