S L C stands for, single level cell, and can store single bit per cell .

While, M L C stands for, Multi Level cell, and able to store two or more bits per cell. In common practice, we refer M L C as dual level cell. Triple level cell and Quad level cells are the versions of M L C,

As, S L C logic is very simple, it provides much better performance.

S L C Cells are not damaged even after lacs of write or erase operation. So, it is more reliable.
So, SLC is used where, reliable and better performance is needed.

As, M L C offers very high packaging density. So, it is cost effective, and used where, high volume capacity is required.
