Made me weepy to hear that, that sweet girl has been in the shelter for a YEAR! She is so smart and sweetness overload! Every time I watch one of these videos I learn something. Huge fan.

Wouldn't it be cool if Dog Shelters had a trainer on staff to really set these dogs up for their best chance of adoption . Seems to me it would be a great place for apprentices to really learn and help the dogs, and in the end financially reduce the cost involved to hold dogs in the the shelter for extended periods

Brought home a nervous shelter dog 3 weeks ago. Yesterday he was incredibly nervous when walking by a field of sheep. Today I attempted these tecniques to focus his attention on me and he was much less anxious about the sheep field. Thank You for all you do Tom. Greetings from England

This is hands down the best video for me, personally. I recently adopted a GSD/Collie Mix who was in and out of shelters 3 times and is 3 1/2 years old. You can imagine the challenge of structuring this dog. I have been watching many of your videos and started applying some of your techniques. This collie fits my dogs behavior so closely when it comes to energy. I cannot thank you enough for uploading this video. I will be using it instrumentally in training and structuring my dog.

Great video Tom. We picked up a rescue dog a couple of months ago. He learns quickly, loves to work and train and is a great companion. Time invested in training is paid back many times over. You have to be prepared to put in that time.

Omg what a precious baby 😭 I love border collies so much. What a lovely dog, she will make someone so happy

Like like like like!! 😭😭😭 I have worked wit her quite a bit and she would be engaged if I had her favorite toy (ball, frisbee), and sometimes came to me for pets and sometimes not😞 I would try to enter her kennel for pets and her nervousness would go through roof like she was saying “I am going to jump and bounce out of excitement just going to go outside now”. It’s like you have a paws in time with them and totally reeled in together and she grounded from you. She is and brilliant and loving and sweet and will make THE BEST companion. At the shelter I have a difficult time finding that pause space and focus, or overwhelmed with “everyone needs time to run and play, go go go!”, practice practice practice bc I see now that it benefits them tremendously and is possibly the most important thing I can do for shelter dogs too. TY again much!!!Keep the videos coming I missed most of the day bc I was running around. 🖐🏽🙌🏽🐾🐾❤️❤️

What a waste of a great dog. All she wants is to engage and learn. Like all Collies, very easy to mess up but with you Tom she felt safe. Thank you : )

Hi. I'm trying to watch all of your videos. This early video was so wonderful to watch you and this dog and the bond you developed with her using your techniques. I am still in training so I can work with dogs in shelters and my community that are not aggressive. Sometimes we forget about the non-aggressive dogs that are easy to help. It is not the dog's fault but the human who don't have any experience, nor know anything about what a dog is, etc. I had a dog when I was young and a family dog when my children was 6 & 7 yrs old. Now I want to help people so they can be better pet owners. Thank you. Stay safe.

I was like you as a kid. My mom will tell you stories of me walking up to growling dogs and having them stop and come up to me licking my hand. (No I didn't hold them out)

We had a chow who boarded at a vet I worked for that would attack the cage when you walked past and couldn't be handled except with a dog catching pole. I sat outside his cage, not looking at him, tossing in food occasionally. Once he settled I'd move closer. By the end of the week I could use a slip leash like any other dog. Her owners were soooo happy. They were literally in tears. I have the same gift with feral cats.

This video literally shows how dog training is art. The energy/confidence he uses is very crucial. Well done!
