This is one of those songs that you hear when you're young.
You like it.
You may love it.
It's catchy.
But then someday you get a little older and you're listening to it one day and you realize just how incredible this song is.
And then you start watching more Talking Heads stuff and then you realize that you were right there in the 80s when this dropped.
And you realize that you didn't fully appreciate them.
And you realize that it's just because you're old and stuff means different things to you and that your perspective shifts greatly across your life.
Then you just sit back and ponder life.
I was there.
Then I was in another place.
Then I was somewhere else.
Now I'm here.
Where will I be next?
Where will I be next?

Thanks, Talking Heads.

You beautiful artists.

The "same as it ever was" theme is PERFECTLY alluded to in the bass line. What really bends your ear is that through the verses and chorus's the bassline does not change one bit. It supports the I in the verses and inverted it supports the V in the choruses. I'm sure that is a Brian Eno move and it's just pure absolute genius!!

Here’s a fun challenge for you and your friends: try listening to this song the entire way through without smiling at all.

Suffering from bipolar disorder and owning one of the best restaurants in my town, sometimes this song goes through my head after a good manic episode.

I swear when ever I feel like I'm the verge of breaking down I either listen to this song or just yell "same as it ever was" for some reason it helps

"Remain in Light" is one of those albums that just never stops rocking. Every single song is perfect. Brian Eno, David Byrne, and the rest of the gang cooked up something special with this.

What an amazing and unique track! I love the intro - it feels like a culmination of all the elements that the Talking Heads are known for, fused into one cohesive song. It makes me wish I could travel back in time and experience the magic of the 70's and 80's.

I just read an article in the NY Times about the condo markets in Toronto and Vancouver. I was reminded of a class in graduate school years ago, Urban Economics, with one bonus question at the end of the exam. "What is at the bottom of the ocean?" The professor had a great sense of humor. Love this song!

And "Remain in light" is probably the best Pop album ever produced. All songs are genious, Once in a lifetime is one of them, but all the other songs should be listened

I literally just bought. “Shack”.

A small farmhouse with a big porch overlooking a beautiful flowing river.

I was 16 when this dropped and I had it on vinyl and 8 track. I listened to this song hundreds if not thousand times back then.

40 years later and listening to it after a long time, ……I realize it’s my life’s anthem and the fact that I just bought a “shack” on a river to watch the water flow by is not lost on me for one minute.

Life is a wonderful experience…….go get your “shack” !
