Britain Makes Worst IFV, Asked To Leave NATO

The British Warrior infantry fighting vehicle is probably the strangest IFV in War Thunder. It does not have a stabilizer and uses an autocannon with a very low fire rate. It has second gen thermals and great mobility, but a very slow ATGM. It should not be good, but it is, and I find that very perplexing. It is very frustrating to use now that Gaijin made sabot rounds bugged, but it's still pretty good.

I've read through most of the internal MoD minutes and correspondences during Warrior's adoption, including the in depth comparison they carried out between Warrior (MCV-80) and Bradley (US IFV). I thought some of you may be interested in the reasons behind its somewhat strange choice of armament.

The original specification for the vehicle actually specifies RARDEN as an armament, aswell as lack of a stabiliser and possibly lack of thermals but I'm not sure. The reason was as you may guess cost saving, but the later analysis carried out showed the army saw a lot of positives in the weapon. With ammunition available at the time, the RARDEN had much more penetration especially at long range than the Bushmaster (or Hughes gun as it was back then). Both guns had enough penetration to deal with BMP-1 even at some range, but with BMP-1's replacement still unknown it was feared an uparmoured replacement would cause problems for the bushmaster. They also analysed using mathematics both weapons projected ability to shoot down hinds, and concluded (somewhat dubiously in my opinion) that both weapons where equally useless in the role. Other effects like post penetration (and therefore the need for multiple quick shots on target for an autocannon) where not considered, and in fairness may not be so important irl.

The TOW and thermal systems of the Bradley where liked by the British, but there where worries of standardisation, and the TOW's potential upgrade path. Britain was involved in european next generation missiles at the time, and where also developing thermals for Challenger. Introducing a new, potentially nearly obsolete missile and having to deal with 2 different thermal imaging systems was seen as a logistics drain.

As you touched on NBC was a very serious consideration at the time, but the army also liked the warriors slightly better mobility which supposedly exceeded the Bradleys.

Ultimately, the army would conclude that while they would prefer to have Bradley the Warrior was also an acceptable close second, and with the decision really being up to politicians it was obvious which vehicle would be better for the British economy, especially considering a licence built Bradley was projected to cost a similar amount.

There where actually several propositions immediately following this decision to upgrade the warrior to match the Bradley, namely the installation of the bushmaster and/or a stabiliser system, but with the project already considerably behind schedule and world tensions rising it was seen more important to get the vehicles into service as quickly as possible.

After seeing Spookston do so well in so many bad vehicles I'm starting to become convinced he's the War Thunder equivalent of the doomslayer

Spookston: "The warrior is a difficult IFV to use correctly" *Proceeds to get 2 nukes*

not just what you said, but the RARDEN cannon has to be hand-cranked for a few seconds to load ammo if you shoot it empty and your maximum ready load is 6 (3+3) because its fed in 3 round clips, which is to say it's far worse in real life than it is in-game

Having worked with the warrior for the past 6 years I can hands down say it’s not a bad IFV, it’s fast…has good armour…the 30mm good infantry support weapon, down side the reliability of them now there getting wayy to old to keep going but that’s why the boxter coming in to replace them.

It is quite confusing indeed, but still quite fun. Also in real life it had a great track record serving all over the world and being quite reliable. You must have faith in the 30mm spookston, use it over the missiles whenever you can.

I'd love to see you do a video on the T29, I remember way back in the day it was an absolute menace with how the underplate was basically immune to cooking off the ammo. Would love to see how things have changed :)

Hey spookston that was me at 7:45, I find it funny cause that was my first heli kill in 6 months since i don't really use them.

On AML being sad, I recommend playing the Eland if you do play that tank, it carries more ammunition allowing you to dominate for longer before needing to rearm. Also works lovely with the Ratel family on its BR range.

UK tree could do with the desert warrior. If they had that and Gaijin put composite in the mantlet of CR2 (photos of this have already been uploaded to the forums) UK would have a pretty nice top tier lineup.

I know that you dislike heavy tanks but why not trying the new Churchill with the Sherman 75 cannon?

Just as a side note for something not in the video, the add-on armour for the warrior makes it shockingly survivable, things like AAs can no longer be a serious threat from the side and you can get some cheeky shots baited from MBTs that they think will kill you but don’t, leaving them open to a missile

YES the warrior. The best IFV ever made now you understand. Now have you heard of the swing fire?

I used to really enjoy using the Warrior, it's actually one of my best vehicles for kills out of all the Brit tree, watching this though it looks like they've massively nerfed the MILANs.
