100% RESERVATION IN KARNATAKA!! What's the truth? | UPSC Current Affairs 2024

The Karnataka cabinet has approved a bill mandating 100 percent reservation for Kannadigas in private firms for Group C and Group D posts.

- It also seeks to reserve 50 percent of management jobs and 75 percent of non-management jobs for locals in the private sector.
- According to the bill, a local candidate is a person “who is born in the State of Karnataka and who is domiciled in the State for a period of 15 years and who is capable of speaking, reading and writing Kannada in a legible way and has passed a required test conducted by the nodal agency”.

Concerns
- It has sparked significant controversy among industry leaders, who argue it is discriminatory and could harm the state’s tech industry.
- A similar bill was passed by the Haryana government in November 2020, which mandated 75% reservation for locals in private jobs, only to be struck down by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in November 2023.

If this bill comes into action it's effect would be:-
a) Companies would shift their operations to states (U.P., Bihar, etc) that provides them maximum manpower.
b) The development pace of Karnataka would decrease while that of U.P., Bihar, etc would increase.
c) Other states (Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, etc) could follow the same path.
d) In long run U.P., Bihar, etc would get other benefits such as increased rate of quality education, better infrastructure & quality of life, improved health benefits, etc.
Though our constitution doesn't provide provisions for such bills yet the selfishness of political leaders often paves way for them. It's high time we change our mentality and in place of opposing we start supporting it. Instead of repeatedly asking for 'special state status' states like Bihar should get an environment to work for its people.
The people from north & east India have been working tremendously hard with a feeling of brotherhood in heart. But, I return they have been beaten & looked down upon.
People who oppose such bills do it because it deprives them of certain benefits. Then, why shouldn't people support it who could get benefited from it.

Karnataka Congress wants to replace Sidhramaiah, he somehow knows the tricks to hold on. An ideological leftist with socialist grooming he knows very well how to play with language sentiments. Now no party can oppose it & he cannot implement it ...the professional protests event managers will get good business..😂

Both companies and govt are now hand in gloves. Govt will aprove the proposal of companies for 70hr work week and companies will agree for this 100% quota.

This will also attract other money minded companies from other places.

I am telling everyone.. This is just a cover up for something going behind, in order to pass up the bill it has to pass the bill from both the houses.
He is covering the 5 schemes or CM seat by diverging the attention.
Dont think quick, give the time to think it will give you proper satasfying answers.

Why do people (all states) forget that country comes first than your language.... You are proud of your language and culture good, but it shouldn't hinder country's developmeny... You guys had asked people from all over India to come and settle at Bangalore and make it an IT hub, now you are blaming them? Had you put those conditions at starting Bangalore would never had become IT hub... This isn't only about Bengaluru... Many states are doing such stupid politics. They feel their culture is at risk. If you can't own your own brothers, how will you own people from other countries... Such narrow minded people.
