Why Karnataka's Quota-for-locals was a Bad Idea | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Karnataka's state government has decided to pause a bill that seeks to reserve jobs in the private sector for local residents. The move was aimed at capitalising on the rising anti-migrant sentiment in the state. What forced the state government to put the bill on hold? Why is a quota for locals a bad idea? Palki Sharma tells you.

As a Kannadiga, I agree with her.
"You must train them to be employable, not by keeping others out".

My friend from Kerala, The government works hard in making education a priority, then works hard to kick out all jobs by giving work policies, and now the state is like why isn't any educated people in Kerala.

Congress party which always boasts "Secularism, Democracy, Equality, Human rights, Minority" are the first to bring such divisive laws in state and Caste census at a central level.

In 2017, the same Siddaramaiah got a new official flag for Karnataka and tried to hoist it everywhere.

Classic Congress.

As a Marathi I support this decision from Karnataka

At least they are protecting their language in their city they don't want to become the next Mumbai for Marathi

If these quota make a problem... come to a village in Karnataka in a bank.. and bank employees start speaking in hindi.. when no villagers speak in hindi.. whats ur solution madam? How so u train villagers? Its a reality in Karnataka, which you don't cover. Local language, local people are first.. then outsiders, There must be a quota for local people in every state

A marwadi invests in bengaluru and hires mostly his community, similar case with Gujarati, bengali, marathi, punjabi., this is what the government is against!!!

Congress just showed us why the license raj existed for so long! This serves as prime example of what unconstitutional, fascist and communist acts look like.

Only if RAGA and his band had cared to read the constitution they flaunt! Just read Article 16 and 14. This is explicitly unconstitutional doesn’t even require a judicial interpretation.

Palki sharma is spot on as always. I'm a kannadiga myself, I love my language and culture, but I strongly feel if local development has to happen, its by improving quality of education in government schools whether it is Kannada or English medium, train them to be a better and well equipped, rather than such bills. Hopefully government makes a sensible decision.
