One of his biggest, most famous, most incredible pieces (Symphony #9) was written AFTER he lost most of his hearing. He didn't even notice the standing ovation behind him after performing it!

A very very famous Czech composer named Bedřich Smetana actually lost his hearing and then still kept on composing despite hearing nothing. He was a genious, he just heard the sounds in his head.

As a Composer: Absolute hell if you loose your ears, ears over eyes, if you loose your hearing you exchange hearing for feeling, literal vibrating of sound... Like beethoven did, he used certain small objects mostly wood, and put them on his lips and put the end of the object on his Piano Forte and then he could feel the vibrating as he played.
